It's been a Roller coaster year for us so far. I know we have only raced one time but we have also practiced the modified 3 times! We have been working and changing things on the modified a lot. We are determined to get this thing handling the way that it should. The weather was not good but we took a gamble that it would hold out because we needed to get the car on the track. It was a good gamble we practiced all day and then it rained on the way home. We unloaded and had the car teched. The tech inspector told us our car was the first one that passed 100% that just shows our outlook on safety first. The first practice at Monadnock was mostly to shake the car down and get some seat time. The engine is running awesome since we fixed it. The handling was more than a handful the first time out. We adjusted on the car to make it drivable at least but Bryon was having a hard time turning the car. We had recently changed power steering pumps and the flow and relief valves were not right for the high banking and big tires we are running on. Bryon said basically he was running with no power steering through the center of the turns and it was evident it was wearing him out by the end of our last practice. All in all a good first day at the track. We found later in the week that the right front shock was no good adding to the evilness of the car.

We worked on some different chassis stuff the next week to see if we could make the car better along with changing the parts in the power steering pump. When we got to the track we prepared the car for practice. The car felt better right off the bat to Bryon. We took 3/10th off our times from the previous week putting us in the 13.0 range, not super fast but consistent none the less. We maintained those times over both of our practices and got the car feeling better too. Bryon and I talked a lot about the feel of the car on the way home and had a few thoughts about what was causing the car to feel twitchy. We decided that it would be beneficial for us to go to Twin State Speedway on Sunday to try a few things and get more seat time. We worked on the car for a few hours redoing the rear geometry then loaded the car. We got to the track early on Sunday because they were having a car show and we thought it would be nice to show off the car. Thanks to the fans for all the nice comments. We hit the track and the car felt much more stable to Bryon with the changes we had made. Once again not super fast but consistent, I could tell he was getting a lot more comfortable in the car by the way he way driving into the corners. We came into the pit and Dwight Jarvis came over and made a few suggestions to us and there was no way I was turning down his advice. I did the things he suggested and the car started to come to life the next round of practice. He then made a few more suggestions and the third round of practice was by far our best one of the spring. Bryon was driving the car into the turn hard and smashing the gas in the middle it was the sound I have been looking for all spring! The last round we also found out we would need to make even more changes to the cars rear suspension if we wanted it to be any faster.

The next week we spent getting the pro stock ready for the season opener at Monadnock. Originally we planned on running the mod too but we decided we need a little more experience before we jump in with that group. The car was a rocket right off the trailer. We made zero changes to the car all night long. We started on the pole in the heat and lead most of it until Russ shot by us down the straightaway...things that make you go hmmmm. Anyway we were happy with the car and left it alone, we figured it may just be because we didn't put new tires on the car. We started the feature in fourth and slowly went backwards, the outside groove was horrible. We were back to about 7th when there was a wreck on the front stretch involving Ron "the animal" Smith and Brandon Ovitt. Brandons car was pretty trashed unfortunately. We moved up to fifth and watched the battle between Mike Parks and Russ Hersey. Meanwhile "the Flamethrower" of Barry Gray was out front, funny I have never seen regular gas do that? Russ and Mike got together on the frontstretch and Russ kinda went around then the caution was out. The next start was single file we were up in the third spot now, the car was starting to get loose into the corner now. The caution came out again and the cars were shown single file restart and the light were out. Barry was on the hammer as he was paying attention and Parks was not we about cleaned him out when I told Bryon the green was out. Bryon shot to the inside of Mike going into turn one and took the spot. We ran out the race that way Mike lost third to Russ on the closing laps. Congrats to Barry on his win we held on for second with a right front tire going flat, found a nice hunk of aluminum through the tread after the race. We were happy with the finish we figured we had a fourth place car and sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.

This week we rained out but we will make our debut in the mod next week at Monadnock. The Pro Stock with probably be idle most of the season, we can't afford to run it on the purse that is being paid out unfortunately. We had a few sponsors in the works but it looks like they can't make the commitment with the economy the way that it is. We will run as long as we can, hopefully for the whole season!

May 19th We ran the modified this past weekend at Monadnock Speedway. We continue to struggle with the car but we have not given in just yet. The car had stretches where it was really going good then it would just go haywire. We talked to a few people and we all came to the conclusion that there was a bind somewhere in the car. Well anyway we started the heat race in the 6th position and made our way to the 4th spot missing the qualifiying spot by one. This put us in the 12th starting spot for the main event. We made a small change to the car and at the drop of the green we fell like a piece of lead back to about 20th spot. The car was a handful as we still have not solved the power steering problem and other evilness in the car. Bryon did a good job considering missing a few wrecks and making his way back to challenge for the 13th spot. The car was going pretty good then all of a sudden off turn 4 the car snapped loose and he went in the infield. At that point we decided there was nothing more to gain so we sat in the infield for the final 8 laps and watched Chris Pasteryak clean out Rob Goodenough. I guess it was true what we heard Chris say in lineup... he was going to the front no matter what. Sucky deal for Rob who has had nothing but bad luck this season. Congrats to Kirk Alexander on his win. We hope to have the car ready for this coming week. If we have enough time we will be there, if not see you in a couple weeks. We did find a bind in the rear of the car and that is fixed now we are mapping out the front geometry and that takes a long time to get it all right.

Until Next time, Phillie

Several Races are scratched from the season.  Check the list below to see when we are going to be racing.

March 21, 2009

This week we finished building the engine.  That felt like a huge accomplishment for us.  Yesterday we put it in the car and now we have a couple things to do before we can fire it up.  Thanks to Nathan Kelly for bringing our transmission down to Trans Tech for us it saved us a lot of time.  That should be ready for us very soon, Brad and his crew have their act together down there.  Osgoods Welding painted the new interior pieces for us and they match perfect!  Those are all put in now.  I ordered a couple spare bumpers from Rick Kluth @ 2 Kwik Chassis.  If you want a good deal on bumpers give him a call.  I also have a bunch of stuff coming from Hirschman's Speed in PA.  We should be in good shape for spare part too.  I feel really good about the upcoming season.  The car is going to be lettered soon by Phil's Signs and Stripes and I am sure it will look awesome as usual.  We will be running number 99 this season on the mod.  We will still be in the 11 in the Pro Stock.  We hope to have some time to work on the Pro before opening day we have a few things we want to try. Check out the schedule further down the page.  New pictures on the Media page in the 2010 gallery, there is also a link below.

March 9, 2009

We have been busy working on the modified getting it ready to go.  We have built spare siderails, cleaned the oil system, made new interior panels, upgraded a few parts and started working on the engine.  We machined the engine block this past weekend.  Bryon talked to Howie Deitz about how to approach the machining that needed to be done and he gave us some ideas.  Thanks Howie!  The machining came out perfect!  Next it was time to degree the cam in.  The new parts we received from Jesel ended up being wrong.  The box said the right part but the part in the box was wrong.  We are just waiting for that to come and we are ready for reassembly.  The transmission is heading down to Transtech Performance to be freshened up, Brad and his crew do a great job for us and they are highly recommended!  We still have a few spare parts to make like bumpers and a frames but the list is getting shorter.  I have a lot of pictures to put up.  I hope to have time in the next few days.  I have also added the schedule we hope to run this season.

Until next time,

Phillie

I keep hearing people say we fenced Russ in the last race at Monadnock, looks to me like we were clearly outside of him until the lap car pulled out in front of him.  Take a look at the video.

January 29, 2009

Well here we are the end of January.  What has been going on with our race team?  The answer is not a whole lot.  The pro stock is race ready for the most part unless we decide to put new body panels on it, but the car is still is in good shape so that may have to wait given the state of the economy.  I was hoping that it would have recovered sooner than this along with everyone else in the world.  The modified needs a few things done to it.  We are making a few new pieces of interior tin because it was a little too high and Bryon was hitting his arm on it.  The engine has been pulled out and the problem was the way the cam was shimmed, we will fix that ourselves so it is done correctly.  Luckily it did not hurt the engine at all.  Parts are on order and that will be worked on soon.  Matt Hirschman has given me some advice and we will be trying a couple of his recommendations on practice day.

Speaking of practice day we plan on running both of them at Monadnock.  We are excited about the upcoming season.  We have high hopes for both cars.  Hopefully we can get some cars back in the Outlaw Pro class so we are able to continue to race.  With the diluted payoff if the car counts are low the payoff will not sustain the amount of money that is needed to get it to the track to race.  We are planning running the Modified at Monadnock on a fairly consistent basis with a handful of Modified Racing Series shows mixed in as well.  One of the highlights of the season will be the weekend of July 23 & 24th.  This weekend we will be returning to two of our home tracks.  Friday night we will be running the Pro Stock at Twin State Speedway for an invitational race.  Thanks to Mike Parks for spearheading this task!  On Saturday we will return to Canaan Fair Speedway for the 3rd Annual Ricky Miller Memorial 112.  This race means a lot to our team The Millers have been lifelong friends of ours and Rick is greatly missed. The event is also a fundraiser for David's House in Hanover, NH.

I will be adding some new pictures and a schedule soon.  I also have gathered some stats for our previous seasons which I will also be adding to the site.  We are also on the hunt for sponsors for the upcoming season.  If you would like a copy of our sponsorship proposal get in touch with us and we will get one out to you.

Until next time,

Phillie

October 6, 2009

Well another season is closing in on us.  A lot of things have been going on the past few weeks for our team.  We finished the season at Monadnock with a third place.  We possible could have won, we were on the outside of Russ Hersey going for the lead when a lap car pulled out of the infield and he moved up the track to avoid him pinching us in the wall damaging both of our cars.  His sustained the brunt of the damage bending the frame.  Just a racing deal had the lap car used his head it would have been a hell of a race.  We had a bent up but fast car still.  Bryon charged from the back and was going for second when Aric Blanchette slammed him in the left front bending that side of the car as well.....out of control as usual.  This allowed Barry Gray to slip by us both and Brandon Ovitt maintained his lead to win the race.  Congrats to Brandon for the win and our good friend Russ Hersey for yet another Pro Stock Championship at Monadnock.

We finished up mocking up the modified and got it out for paint meanwhile we got the Pro Stock ready for the Fall Foliage race at Twin State Speedway a race we have been looking forward to all season.  That race ended up being cancelled because of rain and will not be made up.  Very disappointing apparently the speedway is going to tear up part of the track and could not wait any longer.

We got the chassis back on Thursday a week and 3 days before the race.  We had to finish a few things on the body to get it to Osgoods Welding to paint that for us as well.  They have been huge for our team this season without great people like Kevin & Debbie Osgood, Paul Tetrault, Tyler Cole, Dave Smith and Shane Stevens non of this would be possible.  I can not thank them enough...so once again Thanks so much for everything you do for our race team!

The assembly of the car went really well we put in a lot of hours getting everything the way we wanted it.  I won't bore you with all of the details but in the end we did not get to do everything we wanted when we quit at 3 am Sunday morning.  Dad and I got to the shop at 7 and got most everything ready until Matt got there to help us and then we took off to get tires at the track.  We got in line for tires and got what we wanted and then waited anxiously for the car to get to the track.  Luckily it was misting out so practice did not start on time.  The car showed up and Grant, Matt and DJ dismounted and mounted tires.  I was off wandering around stressed out...lol.  We managed to get the car ready for the first practice.  We went out it was loose bad....mainly because we had old junk tires on the car.  Bryon said he had a really bad vibration, when he came in we found the driveshaft was wobbling.  Dwight Jarvis was nice enough to lend us his spare so we could race.  Thanks Dwight!  The second practice we went out on sticker tires.  the car was much better a half second faster than the first practice.  The engine seems to have good power and runs perfect.  The car was still loose.  We made some more adjustments to it for the heat race we started 8th.  It went fairly well until Bryon drove it in real hard then it would just want to spin out.  Eventually he did spin out almost hitting the wall but luckily only hit the dirt bank.  We did not qualify through the heat so we now had to run the consi.  We started the consi in 6th they were only taking four.  The pack got bottled up and we had to lift to avoid the mess putting us way behind the car was better but still loose in.  The 74 got loose and came across the track and Bryon checked up and got sideways to he would miss him and along comes Shelly Perry 3 second later and piles us in the left rear qtr panel.  I have no idea what she was doing...obviously not paying attention as usual.  We ended up not making the race but only have a little damage to the car.

All in all it was a good day and we learned a lot.  We are going to attempt to make the race at Lee for Oktoberfest weekend.  I plan on posting a lot of pictures in the near future keep checking back for them.

Special Thanks to Andy Hofmann for getting us everything we need  and Phil's Sign and Stripes for making the car look awesome as usual!

Also to all the other people and sponsors that have helped get us to this point.  I will try to remember everyone!

We will not be going to Oktoberfest at Lee we found metal in the oil filter and the engine will need to be torn down.

September 11, 2009

We won this past Saturday September 5th.  It was a busy night at the speedway.  There were 9 divisions of racing, in order to get the whole nights racing in the heat races were cut from a few divisions.  We were one of them, which made for a long night of waiting but it was ok we got to watch some racing for a change. The speedway did a good job as usual of moving things along.  We made some body changes to the car this week after struggling with a loose racecar for the last year and a half we think we have finally figured it out.  We started the feature in the 3rd spot and by lap 4 we were off and running leading the pack.  We had a few anxious moments with some of the lap traffic but we came through it unscathed.  Mike Parks and Russ Hersey were putting the pressure on but we were able to hold on as our body mods made the car really tight but that was a lot better than what we have been dealing with lately. All in all it was a fun night and yet another different setup will go under the car again this week, gotta keep trying.  Now with the future of the Pro Stock class at Monadnock uncertain we have been moving forward with our Modified project.  We have been making big strides the last few weeks, and to see this project come to fruition will be more of a relief than anything.  Hours upon hours have been spent in the garage to produce a car to our high standards, now if it goes as good as it looks we will be doing just fine.  The car is currently getting stripped and finished up so it can be sandblasted and painted.  We are hoping to be ready for the Oct 4th race at Twin State Speedway but if not we will be ready for Lee's Oktoberfest.  Either way we are excited about it!

It has been a couple weeks since the last update. We have raced two more times bringing the season total to 7 races, that is crazy for us but now we are into our second week of a 3 race in a row stint. It is a great idea running every other week, definetly helps keep the costs down for us. The bad news is we are not getting any cars to come and race and that pretty much has been the curtain call for the Pro Stocks at Monadnock. Larry Cirillo has told a couple of the competitors that this will be our last year at the Speedway. It sucks but what can you do? I know there are some behind the scenes workings going on right now for a place for us next season, I think it could be a lot of fun if it works out....more on this as the details unfold.

Our car has been just awful this year. We went from having a great handle on it last year to just struggling. I think some of it has to do with the lack of dedication to the Pro Stock as we continue to work on the modified dedicating very little time to the pro. That is no excuse but it does play a large part of the thinking process behind the car not going well. Two weeks ago we started second (I think) and quickly jumped out to the lead and led 34 laps of our forty lap feature. Mike Parks put the pressure on us for a long time before finally making the move to the outside passing us for the win. Russ Hersey was not able to get by so we finished second and Russ third.

This week we threw another set up at the car and we were really quick in practice once again turning fast time in both practices. Things were looking good for us or so we thought. We started the feature in the 4th spot and on the initial start the caution came out and Aric Blanchette and Steve Gauthier came together right in front of us ending their nights early. The word was Steve may have broke his arm.....hopefully he didn't, but either way get well soon Steve! This moved us up to the outside of the front row. We got a good start and took the lead from Barry Gray and led up until lap 18 when Mike Parks got by us on the outside taking Russ Hersey with him. We ran the rest of the race in third and that is where we finished. The car kept getting looser and looser entering the turn, this has been our problem for a long time and we are trying hard to get this taken care of. This week we have yet another new set up under the car. Maybe this is the one....if not we will keep on trying!  Meeting all of the fans for the on track Party was a blast too Bryon met a lot of great people and little fans too!

Congrats to Mike Parks on his back to back wins.

Another Decent Run

We made a lot of changes to the car this week in hopes of keeping up with Russ Hersey who seems to have a stranglehold on the competition at Monadnock Speedway.  Most of the stuff we tried didn't really work the way we had hoped it would.  We have come up with a few more ideas that we will try the next go around.  The car count was really low and I hope some of the cars that were there earlier in the season show up again.  Rumor has it that Guy Caron will drive his Uncle Punkys car the next race and then Punky will run the remainder of the schedule.  Like I said this is just a rumor I have heard but with his return to the late models at Twin State Speedway I have to say there may be some truth to it. The modified is still coming along we fired the engine this week, checked the power steering and clutch.  They all worked perfectly and the engine sounds stout.  We will be ready to tear the car down soon and move on to paint!  Starting to get excited about it again.

A Fun Night!

We returned to Monadnock Speedway for the first time in over a year.  The competitors all seemed happy to have us back.  We went out for the first practice and it looked like Bryon never left. We set fast time in the first round of practice not bad.  The car was pretty good but we decided at the last minute to put new tires on.  We lined up for the heat race and there was a problem with the car so we did not make it out.  This put us in the 10th starting spot for the feature.  We did not know what to expect because we did not have a chance to scuff the news tires.  The car was fast the first 18 laps of the race where Bryon quickly made it to the second spot, then the car got loose getting in the turn which then caused the car to push up in the middle.  Mike Parks had caught us by this time.  They had a hell of a battle for the last half of the race, it was exciting to watch!  They both said after the race it is the most fun they had had behind the wheel in a long time.  We could not run down Russ Hersey as he was in another zip code!  Congrats to Russ on his win and Mike for his Third place finish.  We will be back for the next race on July 18th. Thanks to Jim Dupont for the victory lane photo!

Bad Luck is Following Us!

The 2009 season has been an up and down year thus far.  We had a rough couple weeks on the Hoosiers and we all whined enough to get the track to change the tire back to the American Racers.  Week two saw us spin out and then charge back through the field to get put in the wall by the 29 smashing the car up pretty good, apparently his spotter did not let him know we were outside of him.  It was a wild ride but everyone was ok.  We ended up pulling out with a lap to go as the car started to get hot from all the grass blocking the radiator.  That gave us an eighth place finish not great at all but that is how it goes some nights. This past weekend was another not so good one for us.  The car was real fast on old tires.  We were excited for a great night but it was not meant to be.  In the heat we started last and got by a couple cars Bryon looked high and got blocked, looked low got blocked, went low again got blocked, made a nice fake and drove to the outside of the 9 going into turn three.  Halfway down the straightaway the 9 tried to block the outside lane again but you can't block the lane if we are already in it.  That sent the 9 in the wall hard to no ones fault but his own.  This is when all the bullshit started.  The track black flagged us, which after our heat they came over and said they made a mistake and we should not have been thrown out.  From this point on it was threats and that team wanting to fight with us for the next 3 hours.  Walking out in front of our haul truck taunting us to come fight in the woods or at the gas station.  The cops at the track are about useless too, I don't even know why they are there.  We had loaded the car at one point decided we weren't having any fun so screw it.  Then we decided we are here may as well make the money before we go.  To whoever sucked the brake fluid out of our haul truck we did not need your towing service and luckily no one got hurt from your childish stunt.  We asked to have someone watch the truck but we were told no.  The racing was not very good we burned up the brakes and tires trying to get around the blocker car and then trying to chase down the leaders.  We finished 5th.  We do not intend on going back to Canaan this weekend, just take the weekend off to work on the modified some more to try to finish that up.  Congrats to Kris Lyman on win number two this past weekend and to Cory Robert the week before.  We also want to congratulate Chris "the Weasel" Riendeau on his first win in the Late Models at Twin State Speedway we have taken him under our wing!

3rd Place on Opening Night

The 2009 season has started out pretty good for us.  We found an issue with the engine and fixed it before it became a major problem.  We got our new rocker arms on Friday afternoon so we knew it would be a busy Saturday to get ready for opening night.  The weather channel was on in the shop all day just watching and groaning about the weather coming in.  We finished scaling the car at 3:15 and we himmed and hawwed if we should bother to make the trek up to Canaan.  We decided the worst that would happen would be losing a night at the shop and 60-75 dollars in gas to tow up there.  The radar was on the very edge so we decided at least we could get a practice in and see what to expect from the Hoosier tire we would be running.

We made it to the track in time for the second practice and forgot to go through tech so we had to do that missing a bunch of laps on the track.  It is a good thing Bryon has confidence in the car because he sailed it in the turn after about a lap of warming it up.  We got about 6 laps of practice and that was all Bryon needed to say this is the worst tire he has ever raced on.  They lacked grip everywhere.  The car was just all over the track and we were not the only ones that thought that. We started the second heat in last, that would be fourth.  I guess the economy is taking its toll on racers so far this season.  We finished third and the car was really unstable I told Bryon just ride because there is no sense in wrecking the car for a heat race.  We did get smashed into pretty good and almost looped in when the 5 car just got in the turn way too hard but it caused minimal damage and Bryon made a hell of a save.  After the redraw we got the outside pole.

The weather was really looking bleak and I told Dave Lescord earlier in the day he was nuts and it was gonna rain.  Much to his credit he was right and got lucky to get the show in because it dumped just after the races finished.  I made a fairly large adjustment to the car based on what it was doing or what we thought it was doing.  Then we were told that there was a meeting after the race about the tires.  We took the green and Kris Lyman jumped out to the lead after a couple laps, Bryon tried to hang with him on the outside but there was just no getting into the turn the car just wanted to chase itself.  At one point in the race we started coming on pretty good and tried to make a move for the lead but the lack of forward bites just spun the tires and Kris got back away from us.  On lap 25 or so Bryon was lapping a car and the car got loose and spun all the way down the straightaway and the 55 got inside us.  We tried to use the lap car to our advantage but came upon another one on the topside and had to lift allowing Jimmy Renfrew to sneak by us for second with 2 laps to go.  We finished up in the 3rd spot.  Not too bad considering.

We all met in the barn after the race and everyone gave their two cents about the new tire.  The general opinion was no one liked it.  A few guys thought they were ok and a few others had already bought a bunch.  I guess the ending decision is we will run the Hoosier one more week and then go back to the American Racer tire which to me is a great decision.  I would rather have a good tire to race on than a measely 500 dollar check at the end of the season.  The racing will be a lot better now too.  I know a few of the guys talked before the start of the race and agreed to just walk on eggshells because no one knew what their car was going to do.  We are looking forward to week 3!  We will probably run this coming week too.  On the mod front we have the body about halfway finished.  We will get more done this week, Sunday will be spent in the shop getting the Pro ready for next week and then back to work on the mod.

Congratulations to Kris Lyman on your win and Jimmy Refrew for 2nd place.

Racing Soon?

Where to start?  What have we been up to lately? Well seems like all we do is work in the shop and nothing gets accomplished.  The last month has been very productive for us though.  We have basically built this car over completely.  It looked good when we got it but the farther and farther we got into it it was not up to B & B standards.  I want it done right the first time.  This being said we will not make the Twin State race.  We have decided to not set a goal for a completion date because it just causes stress and frustration.  Once we did that we have been moving forward.  Yesterday we had to fix the doors we bought from Duraflex racecar bodies.  The second time we have had problems with their stuff.  They told us these doors would fit existing Troyer quarter panels and they did not.  No big surprise as we spent 150 bucks on a hood from them which they said it will fit a wide car and does not even come close to fitting. I have been in contact but seem to get no where when I talk to them.  I guess I would not suggest buying anything from them.  I opened our new seat belts and Impact sent the wrong ones.  We got our fuel cell and Lefthander forgot to put the bladder in.  See this is how it goes for us take 1/2 a step forward and two back.  On another note I wanted to thank Sean Bodreau a long time friend who has answered all of my questions so far and let us come to their shop to look at things when we needed to.  Not to mention they had a great run at Monadnock getting a top 5 finish it looks like they finally have things turned around after a tough few years.  I have to admit looking at the 44 on the door is somewhat confusing but reminds me of my friend Ricky Miller whom we miss greatly.  We are hoping to run the 2nd annual Ricky Miller memorial race at Twin State Speedway with the mod but even if we don't we will run the Pro Stock in his honor.

Last week we pulled the Pro Stock out of the trailer and started working on it.  We had to change the rear end, shocks, springs, valve springs and set it up.  When Bryon started changing valve springs we found several problems with the rocker arms.  It seems age and 8000 rpm's all day at Twin State took its toll on our poor power plant, but we were fortunate enough to do our routine maintenance and find the problem before it ruined anything.  The intention initially was to run the full schedule at Canaan but we are not sure we are even interested in doing that now that we had been notified that Hoosiers will be run this year.  An economy tire for 134 dollars apiece is assanine and I just don't see us doing the whole deal.  They are the same compound from left to right too...we just can't believe that you would go away from a great tire that all of New England is running on, but I guess the lore of $$$  blinds people sometimes.  The plan is to run this Saturday but who knows maybe we will maybe we won't....to be quite honest Bryon and I are sick of racing and we haven't even started yet. Spring is Here!!!

The time is flying by this year!  We have still been working hard on the modified.  Although we are in no way close to being ready progress is being made slowly.  The center section tinwork has been completed, it came out really nice.  The cockpit is close to being done, I hope to have the dash finished today.  The new fuel cell has arrived and is now in the car, we still have to run the fuel lines which should not take too long.  Bryon has been working on the the engine, changing the oil pan and a few other things.  The biggest projects we have left are run the oil lines to the dry sump tank, fuel lines, brake lines, wiring and body.  The preparation for those jobs has been very time consuming but things should start to go quickly now.  We have roughly a month to finish mock up before we need to get the pro stock in the shop.  We plan on the first race with the modified to be at Twin State Speedway our home for many, many years.  I know Bryon will be very comfortable running at a track that he has thousands of laps on.  The pro stock needs a few things done to it.  We need to change the rear end back to the Canaan gear and put our differential in.  We also have a new shock and spring package we are going to run based on what we found the last race at Canaan we believe we can go even faster.  We are looking forward to a great fun filled year.  I hope to update this more regularly now that the season is closing in.  I have a bunch of pictures to put up.  They should be up in the next few days.

Plans Changing....

I have not updated in quite a while but I have been getting texts and emails from people that want to know what is up at B & B Racing?? We have been puttering along on the car but it just seems like progress is really slow. The economy is hitting us pretty hard so at this point unless we can get some additional sponsors we will not make the start of the season at Monadnock. This really sucks because we have a lot of experience and fans at the Dog. Sometimes life pitches you a strike and you just have to do the best you can with it. We certainly are having a good time working on this car though. Much easier than working on the pro stock. We have done quite a few things since the last update. We put the new frame rail in the right side that was about a days work but it looks so much better now. We also replaced the right side of the center x bars. We are in process of fixing the fuel cell x which was not close to what it should be. We also want to thank Rob Williams for helping us out with our fire suppression system!! That saves us from having to spend money on a new one which are pretty pricey. We have been buying parts on ebay and at flea markets to help save us money. Some parts on the car are older but they are all in good condition. We will update parts sometime but now the priority is to get the car done. The front and rear suspension is all on the car. The siderail mounts have all been fixed thanks to Larry and Weasel for letting us borrow their siderails so we could get our mounts right. The engine is in and we are working on getting it plumbed up, that is a lot of work and we are learning as we go. This is our first dry sump engine and we want to make sure we cross our t's and dot our i's. Finally got the 8 layers of paint of the roof too that should save us about 10 pounds....that really sucked. I started working on the gauge panel and switches last night, while Dad worked on templating the interior tin. So for now we are moving forward as far as we can until we run out of parts. The good news is the Pro Stock is pretty much race ready so it looks like we will be starting our season at Canaan Fair Speedway, hopefully we can do well enough to make some money to help carry us through the season. Stay Tuned....

New Pictures have been added to the Modified Gallery.

I want to start off with a couple of Get Well Soons!  Bill Barnett who works on Russ Herseys car just underwent back surgery and while they were doing that they also found a few other issues.  Bill will be ok but it will take some time.  Richie Brown of RSB Racing Chassis had a bad snowmobile accident a recently.  He has some broken bones but he will also be ok he will be recovering for a while too.  Get Well Soon Guys!!

Work has continued in the shop the past couple of weeks.  We are working on getting the car set up for our jig.  Hopefully this weekend we will cut out the right side framerail and replace it.  It did have a bit of a wave which would have been fine but we couldn't stand to leave it like that. We also cut out the diagonal roof bar and move it to the center of the cage which will be much easier for Bryon to put on his helmet and Hans device.  The next thing to do is fix the side rails and mounts.  The previous owner had them all cobbed up so we will fix it to the way they should be.  That way if we wreck a side rail we can just order one and bolt it on. We started working on the engine a little bit too.  We started to put on the new pulley system on that we got and re routing some of the oil pump and water lines. I really wanted to put on the new style roof but after checking to see if it would fit it would require a lot of work to the roll cage so we have decided to go with the older roof.  I started to strip the paint off it this week and there are about 6 layers of paint on it so it has been a pain in the butt to say the least.  We are going to fit the car with door plates as soon as we get the specs from the True Value Series.  They are working on getting the drawings now, we still have a good amount of work to do before we get to that point though.

I have added new pictures to the picture page.....go check them out!

December 17, 2008

We have finally gotten busy the past couple weeks. We welded in all of the holes that were in the chassis, that took a few nights. We loaded the car up and headed to Northampton, PA to drop off the chassis at Hirschmans Garage and Speed. Tony and Matt spent a couple hours going over the chassis and what we wanted to do to it and what needed to be fixed/and changed. 16 hours later we were driving back in the yard. We had to order a few parts and just wait to see what Tony found when he put the car on the jig. We found out later in the week that the car was good. We made arrangements to meet about halfway to pick up the chassis. We want to thank the Hirschmans for everything. They got our car in so that it could be done and we would not have to drive all the way back to their shop. It saved us a lot of time and money.

Now that the chassis has been worked on we have put it on our jig to assemble the car and make a few changes to it. It will also be sandblasted soon. We still have a long road ahead of us and if all goes well we will be ready for the Monadnock opener for the True Value Series. We made a deal for an engine and picked that up Sunday as well so this week we had some key things happen in the past two weeks. We have been looking for some new sponsors for the upcoming season so if you are interested in having your name on our race cars contact us.

We attended the TVMRS meeting in Keene, NH this past Sunday. The meeting was pretty mellow this year compared to years past. There are a few rules changes for this season. They are; 1 ignition box only, the Whelen Mods are also changing this rule too. Fire Suppression systems are also mandatory, I am all for safety so this is a good rule in my opinion. Some changes in qualifying and line ups. Door plates are highly recommended by the series but not mandatory, we will be putting them in our car, the Whelen Mods are making this mandatory for 2009 as well.

There was discussion about being able to throw out two races so that the underfunded teams would have a chance to run for the championship. I know the 3 teams around us thought this was a great idea. We did as well, it gives you that option to miss a couple of races if you can't make them for whatever reason and have a chance to win the championship. Looking at the schedule we have decided that we would probably be running about 10 shows. Unless we can pick up additional sponsorship. The purse is also going up this year to 2000 to win and 450 to take the green. That is great especially with the tire deal they have in place. 140 dollars per tire is only a few dollars more than what we pay for our Pro Stock tires. The tire compound for the left side tires will be different this season and according to the drivers that tested them they are better for the duration of 100 laps. Which the series needed, it seemed like everyones tires were going to hell around lap 70-80 and just hanging on for the final 20 laps so the racing should be better.

We plan on running our Pro Stock at Canaan on the weeks we don't run the modified. We are really looking forward to the 2009 season! Hopefully the economy improves so we can do all as planned! I am also adding a bunch of parts to the for sale page and pictures of the mod later in the week so check back for them. Not really much different but it is an update! lol

Until next time!

We have the modified at the shop.  We stripped it and mounted the seat so far.  The new head and shoulder braces are on order.  Those will be put in next.  Then the chassis is going to be media blasted and primed.  It will then go on the jig to be checked by Tony Hirschman.

October 24 & 25th 2008

Another Top 3 to close out 2008!.....

We returned to our home track this weekend.  Friday we spent the afternoon at the track preparing for the weekends race.  We fixed the rear end this week which was perfect.  We unloaded the car and it was bad fast right off the trailer.  We were 4 tenths faster than we ever have been, this car is absolutely awesome!!  It has been at least 2-3 tenths faster at every track so far.  We turned a fast lap of 13.58 in the afternoon.  We made a change to the car and made it even better in the last session.  The rest of the guys were ready to load it and go home but I wanted to make one more run.  It is a good thing we did because we ended up with quite a scare.  The car started skipping on the last lap of practice.  We expected to be done for the weekend, Bryon thought it may have bent a valve.  We loaded the car up and took it back to the shop.  Once we got into it we found the pin in the end of the rocker arm had worked its way out and fallen into the engine.  Luckily we run screens under the intake!  Bryon pulled out the distributor and there it was, he fished it out with a magnet.  Now we had to find some parts to fix it.  We want to thank Dwight Jarvis for helping us with the parts we needed to get it fixed.  We put it all back together and it sounded fine.  The carburator was still acting screwy so Bryon changed gaskets and cleaned it with carb cleaner and that brought it back to life.

Saturday I drew number 27.  We were not too worried because we knew the car was good.  I think the weather really hurt the Saturday portion of the show, overcast and showers all day sucked.  We started the heat race in the third spot and quickly made our way to the front passing Aric Blanchette and Bucky Demers to go on for the heat race win.  This put us on the outside pole for the feature event.

Our good friend Russ Hersey was starting on the pole and we knew we had our work cut out for us if we wanted to beat him.  Russ is always fast where ever he goes.  Bryon really enjoys racing with him too, there is a lot of trust between them knowing that if they do touch it is just hard racing.  The rain started falling so we were drying the track for a while, but finally it got good enough so that we could race on it.  The green dropped and we raced hard for the first 6-8 laps finally giving way to Russ.  Coming off turn 2 the car jumped sideways and got into Chris Wilk sending him into the infield but luckily the yellow was already out so he got his spot back.  The bolt that holds the trailing arm to the axle tube broke.  The next 41 laps were a handful for Bryon to say the least the car was crab walking all over the place.  We actually took the lead for a little while and lead for about 15 or so laps before Russ got back by us again.  The car was getting really bad near the end.  The caution came out one more time and Bryon told me he didn't know if he could hold them off for second.  Going into turn 3 on the final lap the car was all over the place.  Jeff Zuidema saw what was happening and made the pass for third and got to our rr quarter panel but we barely held on to take home second place.  A great finish to a fun second half of the season.  I will continue to update the site in the next few weeks.  I have a lot of pictures form the second half of the season to put up.  I also want to thank Maurice Enterprises for buying our tires for this weekend.  We really tried to win this one for Ricky but it just didn't work out.....

Congrats To Russ for his win and Jeff for third.

Also special thanks to Eric Lafleche for putting his in car camera in for the race.  It is awesome.  Go to www.victorylaneforum.com and join his web board.  You can look at all of the videos once you join and it is free!

I also want to thank Alan Ward, Eric Lafleche, Wally Morton and Flipper for pictures this season.

October 17, 18 & 19th 2008

Another Top 5 for B & B Racing.....

This week we ventured to the Bay State to race at Seekonk Speedway. We have been looking forward to this race all season. The 3000 to win Battle of the Pro Stocks had some great competition showing up. We thought we would do fairly well as long as we made the show.

We finished at the shop on Thursday night around 11:30, it wouldnÕt be right if we werenÕt ready until the last minute! We planned on leaving around 6 on Friday morning for the open practice being held that day. We actually did leave on time but we had a problem with the alternator in the truck before we even got out of town. Once we got that fixed we got on the road. It was a decent ride to the track, the Haultruck is actually pretty comfortable considering the 3 hour ride.

We got to the track and went to get our tires there was good selection. We then prepared the car for practice. We went out about 5 times and made a lot of changes but we could not get the car to tighten up getting into the corner. We made it a lot better and decided we would go with it for qualifying on our new tires. The set of tires we ran had a lot of laps and several heat cycles in them.

Friday night we all went out to dinner and then headed to the go kart track. That place is an absolute blast! I donÕt think we stopped laughing the whole time we were there.

Saturday morning we decided to change the rear end. We found that it was bent which was probably causing a lot of our looseness. We also changed back all of the changes we made the day before so all of that practice was out the window now. The rear end also had a different gear ratio which we though would be better as well. We went through inspection with no problem and I drew number 5. I thought that would be a good spot considering there was 27 cars at the track. We then went out to scuff our tires. The car was really good. We were going to be starting second in our heat race and we also were told that all of the cars would make the show.

We took the green in the heat race in the second spot. Bryon ran the outside untile he got an opening to get down. We ran third the whole heat and we qualified for the redraw on Sunday morning.

Sunday morning we got to the track early to get the car ready for the pit party. We got a lot of great comments from people. It is really nice to see people appreciate the hard work you put into your car. Bryon signed autographs and visited with everyone. The pit parties are a lot of fun, it is great to see the kids get excited to get an autograph. After the pit party we went to the drivers meeting. Bryon redrew the outside pole, a good spot but not where we wanted to be. I would have liked to be on the inside but that is how it goes sometimes.

We were outside of Tom Scully Jr. a 4 time winner at Seekonk this season. We knew he would be tough but we gave it our best shot....4 times. It took 4 tries to get the race going because the people in the back just kept crashing. We finally got going and got hung outside. The car was tight we wanted it to free up later in the race so we were just hanging in there. Several cautions came out through out the day. We fell back to the eighth spot, when all hell broke loose in front of us. Bryon got lifted up in the air when he got hit but somehow managed to keep the car straight and drove out of the smoke with minimal damage. The car was starting to come to us finally and I thought we would have a good finish. We slid back to fifth, Jeff Z and Russ got by us. Russ got into someone and ended up having to go to the back. That moved us up to the fourth spot. Right beside the 42, we have had some issues this year with them. It all seems to be behind us now as Bryon and Jeff raced hard for a lot of laps. Bryon finally got by into the 3rd spot when the yellow would fly. This happened 4 times, we would make the pass or almost make the pass and the yellow would come out. The car was really fast around lap 70, but all of sudden i got really loose. Bryon was battling with Russ for the fourth spot and I told him to let him go and my hope was he would open the door for us to get by the 42. However my plan failed we probably could have held Russ off but that is how it goes sometimes. I can't complain we had a great day and finished 5th with minimal damage. Once we got in the pit we found that the LR tire was pretty flat. Tom Scully Jr won the race and over 5 grand! Congrats to those guys for the win, Kenny Spencer for second and Jeff Zuidema for third.

Our Next Race will be at Twin State Speedway October 25th, hopefully we can finish the season with a good run.

Win # 2 for 2008!!!!

A great night for B & B Racing.  We have been knocking on the door for a few weeks now.  We finally put it all together to take our first win at Canaan Fair Speedway on the final night of the regular season.  It was a lazy day at the shop for Bryon and I.  We finally unloaded the car on Friday night and did our routine maintenance on it.  We have been working on getting the old car together for Zach Jewett the new owner so it would be ready for him to race at the open show at Twin State Speedway.  We knew our car was really good and we didn't need to weigh it this week.  We were looking at the body damage from the previous week and we thought about leaving it but on Saturday morning I couldn't help myself, it had to be fixed.  Well a long story short we planned on leaving town around 2 pm but I was still working on the car at 2:30.  I said to Bryon that I didn't want to even race and he said he didn't either we could just stay home.  We knew that the car was really good the previous week though and we talked about a couple changes we could make if the car did certain things, so we said let's give it a shot!  The night was pretty laid back we went out in the second round of practice to scuff our race tires to size them up and pretty much hung out until our heat race.

We started in the 5th spot in the heat race and it looked like it may be tough to get in for the redraw.  With a little luck and impatience on other competitors parts we were able to run away with the win.  Giving us 20 points for the heat race win. Bryon went for the redraw and pulled the #2 pill which was good enough to put us on the pole for the feature.  We decided we would go ahead and make one of the changes we were talking about for the past few weeks.....it was put up or shut up time.  I was real nervous about the change, Bryon was really confident that I had nothing to worry about.  I had a plan in my head to go to if it did not work out.  Well as luck would have it the change to the car fixed the loose on entry problem we have been fighting all year long.  Bryon could just kill the field getting in the turn.  The green dropped and we were off like a shot.  The 29 hung around for about 10 laps and the car just kept getting better throughout the run.  The race went green to checkered when it was all said and done we won by over half a track!  Probably our most dominating win ever and Bryon said it was one of the best cars he has ever had which is saying a lot over his 25 year racing career!!

I have to say this has been a fun but challenging season for us.  Building our own car and engine has been so rewarding in so many ways.  To watch something you built within your own shop has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.  Fighting with friends and leaving a track you love has also been one of our toughest decisions we ever had to make.  Going back to a track you ran well at but had a hard time with management was tough, but we were treated fairly and greeted with open arms.  Racing people are the salt of the earth and for every bad moment there is a good one to replace it.  As one of our friends wrote "In racing sometimes these things happen that you wish didn't, but cooler heads and friendships prevail and hopefully they have."

This weekends race was rained out at Twin State Speedway but we will honor our friend Ricky Miller on October 25th!  Please come and support this great event benefiting the Victory Junction Gang Camp.

Our Next Race will be at the DAV Memorial at Seekonk Speedway on October 11th-12th.  Come on down for the weekend it is a great time!!

I have a bunch of pictures to put up.  I am kinda crunched for time with work right now but I will get them up soon!

2nd.....

The team and I decided that I should keep my mouth shut after the fiasco Saturday night so in a nutshell here it is.  What could have been our first win at Canaan was not meant to be.  Congratulations to Walt Hammond we finished second Brian Henry rounded out the top 3.  The 21 had a 4 barrel carb on his car and was disqualified.....Thank You Canaan Fair Speedway for not letting it slide.

Rain.....

Click Here to see what we have FOR SALE

We got to run practice and our heat race this week.  When we got to the track we found our right front shock was leaking oil and there was nothing we could do about it.  I let the pressure down a little and it did stop.  We threw a spring rubber in the right front to give it a little help as well.  We hit the track with our old tires and I think they are officially worn out.  The car was still fast though.  The second practice we went out to scuff our new tires and the car was bad fast.  Finally seems the homework we have been doing has come to fruition.  We have not been to the track with the same set up twice this season.  We are always changing something to try to go faster.

Anyway we started the heat race in fifth and passed a couple cars to make it into the third spot.  Chris Wilk and Donnie Lashua pulled out to about an 8 car length lead which Bryon was able to close and make a move for second on the last lap.  The car was good and we were slated to start 3rd in the feature behind the 55 of Jimmy Renfrew and the 21 of Donnie Lashua.  The sky had looked black for quite a while and the drivers had a vote to run on Sunday or cancel.  The vote to cancel won by 1 vote.  Dave Lescord said there would be a decision on a make up posted today on the Canaan website.  This week will be spent prepping the other car for the new owner.  We got James ready for this week yesterday and of course we made another change so we will see how it works out for us.

I have pictures to be added later in the week.  Check back soon.

See you at the track.

Can't put it all together.....

Click Here to see what we have FOR SALE

This week the weather was awesome! You couldn't ask for a better day at the racetrack. We changed our rear gear to try to get a little more speed out of the car. Other than that we just did our usual routine maintenance on the car. We had 18 Pro Stocks on hand for the race and Ricky Bly had to run his Late Model with us due to an issue with his clutch so that put us at 19.  A couple cars that were at the track last week did not come this week.  We could easily have 22-24 cars in a week if everyone shows up.

We went out for the first practice and the car was really good. We were turning 14.4's on tires with about 20 heat cycles and a few hundred laps on them. The car was pretty decent we made a small chassis adjustment for the second round of practice and we picked up 2/10ths of second! The car was awesome. Bryon drew number 84 for the heat races which put him in the 3rd starting spot behind the luckiest man on the planet Donnie Lashua. Donnie jumped out front and we followed him around for 8 laps and took the checkered flag in the second spot. This put us in position for the redraw. Bryon redrew number 4 and once again the 21 drew spot number one. For anyone that thinks this is a set up you are wrong. Bryon said there is no way to cheat their system. It is just that.....Luck!

We have been experimenting with bleeders the last 2 weeks which has probably cost us at least one win now. Last week we finished second but once we got going this week it looked like we threw an anchor out the window the car was such a turd. It was evident that we ruined the tires last week. Live and learn but damn...... The car was so loose Bryon couldn't get in the gas. Everyone was driving like the race was going to be won on lap 1 and there was a lot of torn up equipment. The 15 and 29 got together and Bryon checked up but still spun himself and the 15 around putting us to the back of the field. We missed the next big wreck and the car was so bad we took the bleeders out and reset the stagger. Out of the pits came the Osgoods Welding Dump Truck! Well to say we made a 180 is an understatement. The car was pushing so bad now that Bryon still couldn't pick up the throttle. There was another wreck that we got through but the officials had no clue who went where. It took a long time but they finally got it all sorted out. We were put back in the sixth spot. The next green came out and the cars in front of us were beating and banging on each other and caused another wreck which we went through the infield to avoid but came out of it in the 4th spot. I told Bryon to watch himself because the 15 was coming and pretty much knocked everyone out of his way all night long. We let him go on the next restart and also let Walt Hammond by because the car can only get better if it is not wrecked. With a handful of laps to go we went from 4th to 6th but that is ok by me the car is in one piece and we can work on our feature set up which needs to be fixed so we can hopefully make our way to victory lane soon!

Congratulations Kris Lyman on your win Guy Caron for 2nd and Brian Henry for 3rd!

News on the Modified front is we have been gathering parts and our back up Pro Stock should be moved to its new owners garage soon which will allow for the open wheeler to be moved into the shop for tear down.

Hopefully next week we can pull it all together!  I will get a new gallery up this week check back soon!

18 Pro Stocks!!

The field of Pro Stocks was a great site this weekend!  This is the best field of pros I have seen in quite some time.  Times are tough but what Dave Lescord and the management at Canaan Fair Speedway are doing is working.  We continue to have fun at the track weekly, and when you talk to management they actually listen to you and try to help if they can, an area where A LOT of tracks and series are lacking.  In the drivers meeting it was said that a competitor was leaving because they were unhappy.  This did not sit well with the speedway management.  They insisted that if you do have issues with something please talk to them so it can be worked on and worked out.  They did not make any stupid statement like if you don't like it go somewhere else.  They want every person that wants to race to be able to race.  That is pretty cool in my opinion.

Now where we left off last week was a car freeing up at the end of the race.  The car was really good in practice and we made 1 small adjustment to the car and that was all we did chassis wise the whole night.  We are still fighting to keep the chassis from bottoming out on the track though.

We started our heat in the 2nd spot.  We lost one spot on the initial green and pulled into the third spot.  We ran the whole race there and were pushing the 29 but could not make the pass.  The top groove is definitely lacking grip.  It would be nice to see the track use some VHT to help get the topside to work better.  The finish put us in a position for the redraw.  Bryon drew the outside pole for the feature!

Donnie Lashua has to be the luckiest guy I know.  He drew the pole again this week!!  We knew we had our work cut out for us for sure.  On the start Bryon got a great run and took the lead going down into turn one and led the first few laps until the caution flew for the first time.  There was some minor damage to a couple cars but nothing too bad.  On the next start Donnie got the jump but there was another spin and we would be starting the race again as we never completed a lap.  We jumped out front again to the lead.  Bryon and Donnie were racing hard our car bottomed out and slipped up the track a little into Donnie, nothing intentional just hard racing.  We led the next 5 or so laps when the caution flew again.  There was a mess over in turn 2 now someone's radiator got smashed and all the fluid was everywhere.  The 8 of Guy Caron was put to the rear after this wreck.  There was a ton a of speedy dry to work into the track.  Jimmy Renfrew was now on the outside of us and on the green he got a great start and checked out for the rest of the race.  We ran a consistent race keeping a 2 car length lead over the hard charging 97 of Walt Hammond.  Hammond got to our inside a couple of times when we were going around lapped traffic but we were still fast enough to hold him off but not quite fast enough to reel Jimmy in.  We finished the race second.  Another great race with some great competition.

Congrats Jimmy Refrew on your win and Walt Hammond for your third place finish.

Hopefully next week we will have some new pictures to put up, Jill is recovering well from her surgery and hopes to get the camera out next week!

See ya at the Track

Another Great Run!!....

A challenging night for B & B Racing.  This week we would finally get to try the car after all of the changes we had made prior to last weeks rainout.  We knew going into the night it was going to be tough because we would not be at the track for practice.  Bryons daughter Crystal was getting married on Saturday afternoon.  Congratulations Crystal and Shawn!!  We left Claremont at around 4:15 and got to the track roughly an hour later.  Just in time for the drivers meeting, we missed the draw though by a few minutes and that relegated us to start in the back of the heat race.  The track let us run a couple practice laps and the car was pretty good.  We decided to run it the way it was for the heat race.

The heat race had us starting in the 7th spot and we knew it would be really tough to make it to the top 3 for the draw.  The track was in bad shape when we got out there.  Bryon said there was no outside groove because there was a strip of oil all the way around turns 1 and 2.  The car was a handful to say the least.  We ran last the whole race and made a move on the last lap to take the 6th spot.  We never got a good read on the car so we just decided to run it as it was with just a small adjustment to the panhard bar.

We started the feature in the 11th spot.  On the first start the lead cars got all bottle necked and the result was a flat tire and front end damage on the 20 car.  After that was cleaned up we had another false start and it was not looking good for us as we were pinned behind a slower car.  On the green Donnie Lashua got by and Bryon followed him up through the pack.  We slowly picked off cars one by one and made it up to 5th when there was a caution for a spin by the 38 in turn 2.  We knew this was probably our only shot at a top 3 finish.  On the start the car just bogged down and we lost a little ground.  Bryon worked hard to get by the 15 car and we ran out the rest of the race to finish 4th.  Not too bad, we were all happy with the results. The car was really close just a little bit free but we are definetly on the right track.  Hopefully this week we will continue our progress of going faster.  The car has no damage so the time spent in the shop will be used to go forward some more.  Thank You to all of the competitors at Canaan it is a pleasure to race with clean drivers!

Congratulations to Russ Hersey on your hard fought win, Donnie Lashua for 2nd and Jimmy Renfrew for 3rd.

It was also announced that Twin State Speedway has added Pro Stocks to the Open Show They are Hosting on Sept. 28th and 29th.  We could not get our name on the entry list fast enough.  We are also almost finished with the the other car which we will be running at Monadnock an September 12th.  We are also going to go back to Seekonk again this year for the DAV race.  That was a great time and the crew can't wait to do it again.

See ya at the Track

Damn Rain!....

Mother Nature decided she was the boss this past weekend!  We sat and looked at the radar at 2:00 Saturday afternoon contemplating if we should bother making the trip up to Canaan this week.  The radar looked like we may have a shot at getting the race in.  I really wanted to at least get a practice in with the changes we had made.  We finally unloaded the car after being at the track for close to 3 hours.  We took out the canopy and had a BBQ while we waited for the rain to stop.  A good time as always!  There were a bunch of people trying to get the track dried and I want to thank everyone for their efforts!  The track decided to go right into the heat races and it was almost time for us to race when the rain started again.  This time for good.  We went home and worked on bad larry to try to get it ready for a run at Canaan before the end of the season.  The only thing left to do is set it up and put the ignition back in it.

On another note Twin State Speedway in having the Ricky Miller Memorial 100 on September 28th.  Please support the event and honor our fallen friend.  Jet is currently seeking sponsors for the race.  100 dollars to sponsor a lap which will be given to the Victory Junction Gang Camp in Ricks honor.  A great race for a great cause in the name of a great friend who is dearly missed. Getting There....

We got a little bit faster this week.  Once again we put our heads together to come up with a plan to make the car better.  The time spent in the shop is invaluable to us.  If you are messing around at the track how can you actually tune your car to make it better?  I am a firm believer in changing things as is the rest of the guys on the team.  I wouldn't say we made huge changes this week but we got the car better. Right now we are kind of having issues with practice because we don't have great tires to run on.  It is tough to justify buying a set of tires to practice on.  We may end up having to do that though. The car was horrible in practice and we figured we would run the heat race before we made any changes. We went out for the 3rd heat starting in the 3rd spot. We pretty much settled in at 3rd and ran the whole heat race there.  Bryon was putting pressure on Chris Wilk trying to make the move for second, the car was just a bit free still he couldn't get the bite he needed off the turn.  This put us in position for the redraw.  Bryon drew 7 which would put us in the 6th starting spot.

We made some changes to the car and I wanted to double check the rear end to make sure it was square which it was. We ran the car over the scales about 4 times before I was happy with the numbers.  After we were ready we got to watch some racing and hung out with Russ Hersey for awhile wondering how the new news was being taken down at our old track.  After hearing the latest we know we made the right decision.  We had 15 cars to race with this week, a decent crowd was on hand.  The other divisions are growing too.  We saved ourselves 7 gallons of gas with the traveling and it is 10 dollars cheaper to get in the pits. Not to mention 200 dollars more to win.  Things are looking good over there.

We started the feature in the sixth spot outside of the 20 of Brian Henry.  The green dropped and Donnie Lashua and Russ Hersey were off and running slowly pulling away from the field.  We ran beside Brian for a few laps until things got sorted out and we settled in behind him.  Bryon said the car was absolutely junk pushing like a bulldozer in the middle of the turn.  I hadn't heard him say that in a long time....lol.  The caution came out when the 02 spun in turn 4.  We doubled up still on the outside we settled in again and Kris Lyman got hung on the outside and we all set to go by when the 20 checked up in front of us.  The car was starting to come to Bryon now freeing up more and more.  He was now putting pressure on the 20 car trying to get around him.  Just past the halfway point Russ' car died coming off turn 4, I'm not sure what happened but he got it going again.  This moved us up to the 5th spot the caution would come out again with about 12 laps to go.  The 29 of Kris Lyman looped it trying to avoid the 15 car who slowed in front of him.  This moved us up to the 4th spot.  On the restart Russ got loose going into turn one and got into us a little bit, no big deal.  It really looked like they barely touch but you are going so fast at Canaan it open the door up like a can opener got to it!  Bryon started chasing down Chris Wilk.  He tried high, he tried low the 15 couldn't decide what lane his car was working best so Bryon just waited for the right opportunity.  That would come off turn 4 a couple laps later the 15 slipped a bit and Bryon got a run down the straight away and drove by him going into turn one.  Now the top 2 had gotten out to about 8 car length lead and Bryon slowly reeled them in the car was getting real good now still tight in the middle but much better than the start of the race.  Bryon made a couple moves but couldn't quite get there to fill the spot.  We were really happy with the finish and now we can make the couple changes we have been talking about making the last couple weeks.

Congrats to Donnie Lashua on your win and Brian Henry for second. Surprisingly enough we even got a trophy for our Third place finish!

It's Still an Oval......

We have been in the shop preparing the car to race at Canaan Speedway for the past two weeks.  We had to make a bunch of changes to the car to get it ready and legal to run at Canaan.  They told us what needed to be changed on the car and we didn't even have to take anyone to breakfast!!  The great thing about Canaan is they get it.  By it I mean the crate engine advantage.  There is not one at Canaan, no weight break, no left side break, no big carb break. The way they see it, it should be equal.  I like that a lot.  This week they gave out proposed rules for 2009 and want all competitors to go through and look at what they would like to change and then they will go through all of them and have the 2009 rules done by the end of August.  That is pretty cool too.

We left the shop around 2 o'clock to make our trek North.  The distance is about the same traveling to Winchester, so we are not going any farther than we normally would.  Practice starts a little later so we can leave later which allows for a little more family time for all of us on the team.  On the way to the track it was raining pretty hard and hailing.  We were thinking it wasn't looking good but kept on going.  We got to the track and it was not raining but you could tell it was going to.  We were in line to get our tires when it started so we were lucky enough to get a shower with the shower.

The track worked hard to get the track dried and said there would be one round of practice.  Halfway though the first round of practice it started to rain again.  Once again the track got the track dried and we got to go out for our practice.  The car was pretty fast just loose all the way through the turn.  It was also bottoming out.  We made some changes to the car for the heat race.  We started the heat in the 3rd spot.  We quickly got to the second spot and followed Kris Lyman for most of the race.  The car was still free and bottoming out again.  Donnie Lashua got to the outside of us with two laps to go but we were able to hold him off to finish second.

We had a few sprinkles throughout the night but nothing to stop the races, the track moved along to get the whole show in.  We started the feature in the 4th spot.  The way they start the feature is the top 3 from each heat redraw for the top 6 spots.  We drew fifth but I think the previous winner starts last, unless I missed something.  On the start Bryon missed a shift and lost a little ground but quickly caught up to the pack and when the first yellow flew.  On the next restart we made our way up to the third spot.  The yellow came out again when the 6 of Mark Cole blew up on the front stretch.  Bryon said the car was really free so we decided to bring the car in to make it better rather than stay out and struggle.  Grant and I adjusted the sway bar to help tighten the car up.  Bryon would start at the back of the field along with Donnie Lashua.  I told Bryon to let Donnie go and try to follow him up through the field.  He ran away from us for a while.  The green run was about 25 laps and the car really started coming into it around 12-13 laps into it.  We ran down Brian Henry and he had a problem and spun right in front of us with 4 laps to go.  Jimmy Renfrew was about a half lap ahead of us at this point.  This gave us at least a chance to go for a top 3.  The start was single file, we made a couple tries to get under Donnie but he was just a little faster than us.  We finished the race in the 4th position.  Not too bad for our first trip to the awesome asphalt this season.  Everyone was asking us after the race if we were coming back and our answer is as long as we are having fun we will be back.  We want to thank the track officials and competitors for making us all feel welcome.  We also want to congratulate Jimmy Renfrew for his win and Kris Lyman for second and Donnie Lashua for third.  We had a good time and can't wait for next week.

Halfway Break is Here!!

After enjoying a week off B & B Racing gears up for the 2nd half of the 2008 season.  We started the day out with a tight race car and we made a few changes to the car in the warm ups to make it better.  We did do that.  The whole problem ended up being the tires we were running had seen better days.  That set us up for the heat race and the car was really free in the center of the turn.  Bryon started second in the heat race and and quickly set sail to win his 3rd heat race in a row.  If only the heat races meant anything....lol.  It still felt good to run well and win.

After our win last week and our two previous lackluster finishes, our average was not too stellar which put us in the 6th place starting position.  Bryon slowly made his charge to the front.  We made contact with Russ Hersey sending him around the caution would come out and I figured we would be put back although a racing incident usually both cars involved go back.  We got lucky and we made our way to 3rd and it seemed the car was getting really bad in the center of the turn once again so we were just riding a conservative race to try to finish to make a little cash.  We ended up sliding up the turn and the caution came out and we went to the back of the field with about 12 laps to go in the race Bryon had to drive the wheels off to try to get back to the front.  We made it all the way back to 6th and the car was so loose Bryon couldn't hang on going into turn 1 on the last lap.  We ended the race sitting in a cloud of smoke but we still managed a Top 10 finish.

B & B Racing will be taking our second summer break of the season this week and hope to get all of the bad luck out of our system.  We always have had the philosophy if we are not having fun then let's try something else.  We want to thank all of our Sponsors, Fans, Competitors and Staff at Monadnock Speedway it has been a fun 5 year run but it is time for a change.  We wish everyone at the "Dog"  good luck and a great second half of the season.  Some things we will miss a lot and some other things not so much.  We will be returning to our old stomping ground @ Canaan FAIR Speedway in Canaan NH.  We have been hearing real good things about what the Henry's are doing up there and we want to go give that a try.

News on the modified front.  The car is almost ready to be stripped and make its trek south to Hirschman's Speed Shop in North Hampton, PA.  We have decided that we will not be racing the mod this season.  We just do not have the time to spend in the shop that it would need.  We will work on being prepared to run the Modified Racing Series next season.  Parts are being ordered and the car will be fresh for the 2009 season.  I hope to have some pictures up soon.

We will also be selling our back up car at the seasons end.  It is a 2002 Howe SS with all the good stuff.  If you are interested talk to Bryon or myself about the car.  We also have a transponder with the hardwire kit for sale for Monadnock Speedway.  $125.00 contact us if you are interested in purchasing it.  It is in mint condition.

Check out the new gallery, the link is below.

Bryon takes the Win!!

A lot of time was spent in the shop this week once again.  As we talked last Sunday Bryon and I contemplated what we would do for the upcoming weekend.  Obviously frustrated from the prior nights events we decided we worked too long and hard on this car to let it sit in the garage.  Then we started to work on the car.  The body needed a little fixing nothing too major though.  We had a very very very loose race car so we had to find out why.  We went through everything and found a couple things that probably helped make it that way.  We also had to build a fan shroud as once again the electric fan was not going to keep the car cool enough.  The worst thing about having a new car is working the bugs out.  We decided to change springs in the car as well, something quite a bit different then we have done in the past, it worked really well.  Sometimes you have to think outside the box and throw something a little different at the car which is what we did.  We then spent a lot of time with the car on the scales just tweaking things until we were happy with the numbers.  One o'clock Friday morning we called it quits for the night.  With just a few minor things to do Saturday the car was almost ready to race.

I want to thank Monadnock Speedway for clarifying a few of the rules for me this week.  Part of my job as crew chief is to know all of the procedures, I am embarrassed to say I did not know a few of the rules.  Michelle was great to deal with as usual and she was gracious enough to answer all of my questions.  The speedway even changed a rule this week with the intention of making the racing even better and we applaud them for that.

On to the track.  We got to the track a little bit late this week.  We had to go to the tire truck and try to get ready for the second round of practice.  For some reason our tire order got missed so we had to go in the truck and pick through what was left in there.  It ended up being a blessing in disguise.  We were able to make a tire adjustment to the car that ended up working really well.  Northern Tire was nice enough to mount our tires while the team was up watching practice so that was very helpful to us.  The car was really quick the first round of practice but not quite where we wanted it, but so far all the prep for the week had the car a ton better.  I made 3 adjustments to the car and we went back out for another round of practice.  Bryon was consistently putting down some fast laps.  He came back in and we made 2 more adjustments to the car for the heat race.

We started on the outside pole for the heat race and took the lead on lap 2 and ran off for the win!  The car was awesome Bryon said.  This would set us up for the same starting position in the feature.  Bryon made quick work of getting to the lead making a nice move off turn 2 to take the lead from Brandon Ovitt he was off and running from there.  There was a couple cautions and Bryon was awesome on the restarts.  He told me the car was really freeing up in the center of the turn so he had to go real easy and just be real smooth on the throttle.  This allowed Jeff Zuidema to reel us in for exciting finish.  Jeff made a run to the outside of Bryon on the last lap going into turn three.  As they came off turn 4 they were side by side with Bryon slightly ahead taking the win in a great finish and they never touched!  Great racing pulling off the win by a nose length!  The best thing about the win was Kevin and Debbie Osgood were there to watch us this week.  They have been our biggest supporter over the last few years and it was great to get the win for them!

Monadnock is off this week for their Summer break, we are looking forward to having a little time off to get to some chores around the house that have been neglected lately....lol

I will have a gallery up in the next day or two.

I also want to thank Dennis Fleury for letting us bring our car up to Twin State Speedway to shake it down last Saturday!

Wow is all I can say....

What if you could turn back the clock would you do things differently?  I would.  I would have voted no to building a new Outlaw Pro Stock.   We have put our heart and soul into this race car.  The first race we ran it in we got the shaft.  The second race we ran it in we won.  The third race we ran it in we got the shaft and then some.  For someone who we really respect to just go and smash into it because they could not get around us just makes me feel like quitting.  I would not expect to race that way or be raced that way.  I don't care if you are faster or not.  It is racing the guy behind is supposed to find a way past the guy in front of them.  Smashing on by or dumping them is NOT racing.  Racing under the speed bumps is not the race track.  There is no such thing as being dumped like a gentleman.  Dumped is dumped in my opinion.  From now on if we get dumped just expect to get it back.  We are sick of being that guy.  I really don't care anymore my season has been ruined over a 2 week span.

Bryon talked to the race director Mike Snow after the race and said the 42 was completely in the wrong by going that low on the track and for dumping us and was going to get a 3 position penalty at THE END of the race.  What good does that do us?  We were told that was the race procedure.  Well I would not know that as Monadnock Speedway has never given me a copy of these so called procedures and they are not posted on their website either.  We are stuck in the middle of the infield trying to get going and got lapped.  BULLSHIT.  Stop the race and put that car to the rear.  Instead you have a situation that is now going to get out of control.  I even asked Jeff if the caution had been thrown and he got put to the back would that had been the end of it and he replied YES.  I asked Bryon the same question and his answer....YES.  Instead now you have 2 teams with smashed up cars and are pissed off at each other who are all friends.  It sucks.

Finally!!

What a crazy week it was.  We busted our asses trying to finish the new car for this weekend.  We all worked hard to overcome all the obstacles thrown at us on Friday and Saturday.  I told the guys just look at the word inside the car "Determination"  we can do it.  I will admit it was looking grim a few times, but we persevered in the end.  We missed all of practice and qualifying.  We unloaded the car and asked if we could run a few laps of practice to shake the car down.  The track was gracious enough to allow us to do that and we were very thankful.  The car went pretty good for the first time out.  Everything worked and Bryon was happy with it overall.  When he came in we made some adjustments to the chassis and almost didn't make it out onto the track in time.  The track was in hurry up mode for some reason.  Bryon said the car felt awesome and as the cars were doubling up the car died.  We came in the pit and this is the part that pissed me off.  The track couldn't even give us a couple courtesy laps to try to fix the car?  That is crap in my opinion, we support this track week in and week out and you can't give us a couple laps to see what the problem is?  The track didn't even have the decency to send an official over to see what was going on.  I just don't understand it.  Here we are with only 13 cars you would think that the speedway would do everything they could to get everyone out there.  I now know why the past 2 CHAMPIONS have not returned to the track.  Anyway we wouldn't have made it back out anyway the ignition burned up.  A disappointing end to a long week.  The silver lining though was we have a fast car and the gratification knowing we did it all ourselves.  We didn't call Distance, Port City, Howe, Lefthander or chassis builder xyz.  We built the car from the ground and I am very proud of it.  It took almost six months of our lives and many sacrifices but the end result is just what we wanted.

It was all possible with help from these Friends

Luck is on Our Side

Bryon stayed out of trouble and brought home a 3rd place trophy.....oh wait a minute Monadnock made the UN-popular decision last night to only give the winners trophies from now on unless it is your first podium finish.  I heard a lot of people complaining about it.  The reason given was a lot of competitors give them away and the speedway decided we didn't deserve them anymore.  At least that was my interpretation of what they said.  I guess if I want to give away my trophy, smash my trophy or put it on the shelf it is my perogative to do with it as I please. If they don't want to give trophies to the second and third place cars then at least give out plaques.  It costs our team on average 280 dollars to get in the pits every week.  I guess a small percentage could be used towards awards IMO.

Earlier I said Bryon stayed out of trouble.....well that was really not the case.  We ran the heat race and that went fine, I can't remember where we started or finished now.  The feature had us lined up in the 8th spot.  We started the race and passed a couple cars making our way forward.  Bryon got a nice run on Barry Gray going down into turn 3 but he shut the door running us into the dirt.  Bryon got on the brakes hard so that he would not run into him. in the next couple laps we drove along side of the 75 of George Frost going into turn three coming off the turn we must have had the invisible car again because he piled us into the front stretch wall, causing a lot of damage to the car.  The next lap going into turn one Frost put the bumper to Bryon sending him spinning into the infield.  Bryon headed back onto the track and the car stalled, I guess that was our saving grace as the track obviously was not going to give us a break.  We then went to the rear of the field, the car was pretty torn up but all of the tires were up and we stayed out on the track.  The next lap after the green was thrown was a mess!!  There was a huge wreck on the backstretch.  Bryon was able to dive to the bottom of the track and miss it, there was a few cars damaged badly.  I even saw a few cars involved get their spots back???  I had no idea why but as far as I knew you did not get your spot back if you were stopped/or involved with an accident.  I can't verify this though because the race procedures are not on the Monadnock website anymore.  This is where our friend Adam Brooks misfortune turned into our luck.  Adam led 37 laps and the fan belt came off his car and it overheated with 3 laps to go.....that put us in the 3rd spot.  The 29MA dumped water all over the track and speedy dri was put down.  The next restart I told Bryon he had one shot to get by Barry, after a couple laps he was pulling away so he had to make his move right off.  On the last lap Bryon drove the car in turn 3 too hard and got Barry and himself really sideways.  He let him gather it back up and raced him to the line.  Bryon said it would not be right to knock him out of the way and take the spot.  All in all a good night.  The damage to the car is being fixed now and we will run this car again this week.  Our new car is done, we are just waiting for the engine which will be done soon.

We really do like Monadnock Speedway as much as it may seem that we do not.  I will continue to write about the things I think make no sense to me though.  There are a lot of good things going on at the track as well.  For instance they had the NEMA Midgets there this week, absolutely awesome!  Even if they did have their struggles the racing was good.  The staff is also very nice as well, I still think that more thought needs to be put into some of these decisions.

I will hopefully have a gallery up soon from this past week....

New Ride Added to the B & B Stable

Preparations for the 2009 season became a reality today.  I officially became a car owner and Bryon will drive our new ride.  We purchased a 2000 Troyer Modified from Kenny Spencer.  The former Donnie Lia car is a very nice piece.  We look forward to 2009 to turn the page to a new venture.  This season is Bryons 25th year behind the wheel of a Pro Stock and we decided with all the hoopla going on now it was time for a change.  It is something we have both mentioned in the past and said its now or never, so lets go for it.  We are hoping to at least run a few races at the end of the season to at least get our feet wet.  The first event we are hoping to run is to honor our lost friend Ricky Miller at Twin State Speedway.  Time and money will tell the tale, stay tuned for updates on the mod.  I also want to thank Chris Bergeron for taking the time to drive down and pick up the car with us.  It is greatly appreciated!!!  If anyone is looking for a pro stock get in touch with us we will have a couple nice pieces for sale at the end of the season.  On to the pro stock.  The car is basically done with a few loose ends to tie up.  The big thing is will the engine be ready for us in time for Saturday??  If it isn't old faithful Bad Larry will take to the track for the third time this season.  After running well last race with a flat lf tire we know the car has even more potential then it showed.  Who knows is the third time going to be the charm for B & B Racing?  Come on down and support the Speedway.  Great racing in all the divisions not just ours.

Until next time....

What does it take to get to the Racetrack??

Bad luck chased B & B Racing all the way to the track.  It seems we just can't get out of our own way lately.  Bryon, me and Pops have been trying hard to finish the new car but that thing we have to do everyday called work is interfering.  The car is really almost done now.  I have almost all of the body back on, and the engine is ready in a couple days.

Thanks to Matt Wiernasz for the Victory Lane Shot!

We didn't unload the car until Friday night and we had a bunch of stuff to do to get ready for the nights event. We needed to change gears so when we pulled the quick change cover we found a couple of bolts on the verge of being stripped.  We heli-coiled them and they are fine now but it took a while to do.  Then we were weighing the car and found a bind in the front suspension so we had to fix that.  We then had to pick up the mess that we made all week and round up all the stray tools and spare parts that we would need to bring to the track.  By the time the car was loaded it was almost 3 then the crew had to get changed and ready to leave.  We were leaving Claremont at around 3:30 but we figured we are ok we don't really need to practice this week.  We will use our heat race to try a few different things instead.  We stopped to get gas and when I walked by the trailer I could smell rubber.  I looked under the trailer and saw that the tires were rubbing the fender wells.  Damn good thing we hadn't left town yet.  We went down to Osgoods Welding and bent the axle back up to where we thought they should be.  Good news we are back on the road.  We got almost all the way to Keene and I had started to doze off when all of a sudden BOOOOM.....holy crap talk about flying out of the seat! The tires had started to rub again and blew out both right side tires on the trailer, which had about 100 miles on them....grrrrrr.  Earlier in the day Pop decided we should get a spare and I said better get 2 just because you normally blow 2 not just one.  What a premonition.  We ended up having to space the wheels out and rebend the axles again.  We took it real easy the rest of the way to the track and got there at 5:10.  Just in time for the drivers meeting.

Here is where the night just gets crazier.  The lineups are already on the board and we have to take up the back.  WHY?  We didn't miss our meeting and we signed in before it.  Must be that same problem Russ had last week.  It didn't really matter to be honest it is just the point of it.  Then the management of the Speedway asks Outlaw Pros and Late Model drivers to stay.  I was thinking what the heck is going on now?   The track thought it would be a good idea to try to build the car count in our division by letting the lms run with us.  WTF are they thinking I thought to myself.  I could see maybe in a few weeks we are going to try this, with a weight break and 10 inch tires on their cars, but in typical Monadnock fashion things were not thought out that well.  At this point I decided to walk out of the meeting before I said something stupid.  After all I have a website I can do that on....lol.  They were letting the cars take up the rear as they came off the track from their feature prior to ours.   We had a couple of cars give it a shot, but lets face it they are late models and they were right in the way, riding around on the speed bump getting dirt and rocks all over the track because of it.  I know that it is against Nascar rules to "fill" the field with cars from another division for Nascar points so I guess I am not sure what the "REAL" reason for this trial was.  It's kinda like putting money on the ground and lighting it on fire for the owner I would guess, I mean really what did he gain by doing this??  Other than shrinking his profit margin for the night.

We started the heat race in sixth and raced our way to fifth in the heat race the car was absolutely horrible.  We mad a few chassis adjustment and Bryon and Grant worked on the engine to see if they could get it running better.  We were going to be starting the feature in the sixth position.  We made out ok on the intial start moving up to forth and running there until the first caution where....low and behold a lm and an outlaw got tangled up.  Imagine that.  On the next restart Bryon missed a shift and lost about 5 spots.  He would race hard with another car side by side until they forgot there was a car on the outside of them.  Our car has a knack of becoming invisable after a few laps so we lost a spot on that deal.  We just floundered around for the rest of the race and picked up a couple of spots bringing the car home in fifth in one piece.

We want to thank the Road Pirate in the enduro division for letting us borrow a couple of his tires for spares for our ride home in case we needed them.  We watched the enduros, man what a riot those guys are.  I think they drive better than some of the regular divisions.  The Road Pirate got a flat so Grant and I played pit crew and changed his tire, what a blast!  Now that was fun maybe we should just get an enduro car instead....lol.

We are hoping to run at Canaan Fair Speedway this week.  They have been asking us to come run with them.  Who knows maybe we will return to their track if the antics at this track keep up.  The fun factor is way down this year.

B & B Racing starts the season with a 3rd!!!

Sometime they say it is better to be lucky than good.  That was the case for us this past weekend.  The new car is not completed yet. We had to bring out Bad Larry with all of the back up parts in it.  The team was disappointed but believe me when I say it was not from lack of effort.  Bryon and I have been in the garage constantly.  The car is almost done.  Final assembly has been started and thanks to Osgoods Welding everything has been painted.   They are a great sponsor and they are great people.  If anyone needs anything done in the metalworking industry I encourage you to go there they can do it!  Anyway back to Saturday Night.  We got to the track late as usual.  Sorted through the tires and got a decent set.  We started getting ready for the first warm-up.  We were late getting on the track for that too, but the car was really good right off the trailer.  We elected to not make any changes and run the heat on new tires.  We started the heat in 4th place and we were pretty quick.  Bryon was running in third when he said the engine was running on 7 cylinders.  I had him switch ignitions but that didn't change anything.  We finished third and when he came in we found a plug wire had fallen off.  I can't ever remember having that happen to us in all of the years I have been helping him.  Mom went up and redrew the outside pole for us for the feature.  I thought that was great.  Jeff Z had the pole and I knew he had a good car so we only had the chance of a good start to get ahead of him.  Well that didn't work we settled into 3rd as Barry Gray got by us too.  The car was definetly not up to par.  We really missed the set up.  We thought about changing gears which we didn't do and should have done.  The car was just spinning all over the place.  Jeffs car broke about halfway through the race and that moved us up to second but Jr Colson got by us on the outside.  Adam Brooks was on our bumper for the remainder of the race racing hard to try to take the position from us but we held on to take 3rd.  The new car will hopefully be done for week 2.

I will post pictures this week sometime.  NEW GALLERY!!!  Click here Monadnock Speedway April 26.

Will we make it???

That seems to be the question lately.  Bryon and I have been working daily in the shop and Pop has helped whenever he can.  We are still waiting on some parts and pieces to finish fabricating.  Hopefully all of the vendors we are waiting for parts from will come through today or tomorrow.   The biggest thing is the car has to be complete before we can tear it down for paint.  We will hopefully be weighing the car early next week then melting lead and making bars for it. It has been such a huge undertaking.  Next time we get a stupid idea like building a car someone kick me please.  Every spare waking moment is spent at the shop.  We have had a lot of empty promises from a sponsor so we are no longer affiliating our team with them.  Our team is based on honesty and integrity something that we found was lacking with this particular company.

We have also been discussing plans for 2009, I know it is early to be thinking about that but we have made a decision.  After 20+ years in the Pro Stock ranks Bryon has decided it is time to move forward to something he has always wanted to try.  We will purchase a modified in the fall for the 2009 season and will run for Rookie of the Year on the True Value Modified Series.  This is a great series and the time I have been around it has been fun.  We are also looking to get into a modified for few races this season.  If you have a ride available please get in touch with us we can bring some stuff to the table to make the deal happen.  We will be selling our tried and true car Bad Larry.  With multiple wins and many top 3 finishes this car will continue to do well with its new owner whomever that may be.  It is a 2002 Howe Chassis with an SS clip, with all the good stuff.  If you are interested in the car let us know and we can give you all of the details.  We will still run a limited schedule in the Pro Stock if time and money allow us to do so.

I will add a few pics to the gallery this week sometime so be sure to check out the gallery.  (March 20, 2008 New pics are up on page 3.)

Busy in the Shop...

Momentum continues to build in our shop.  We continue to make progress on the car daily.  Although we are a little behind where we wanted to be at this point, we are starting to make up time lost.  I was finally able to convince Bryon to move his shoulder supports on his seat, which he likes better now that I have done it.  I went through all of the parts from the old car and made a list of stuff we will need.  I also stripped all of the fittings off the braided lines to get all of that stuff ready to go when we need it. Bryon got most of the brake lines done, but we need some of the interior in before we can finish mounting them.  We decided to mount the exhaust under the car as well as out the door in case we need to move it when we run at other tracks.  Today we had an unexpected set back.  I went out to the trailer to measure a few things in the other car and noticed the roof was starting to sag.  We spent about 2 hours cleaning the snow and ice off the roof so it wouldn't cave in.  Then we got started on the tin work.  We made 3 pieces so far and it was probably the hardest part we will have to do.  Jill stopped by today and took some more pictures, she likes the sparks.  Everything is looking good so far and with any luck we will make it to practice day. Check out this link to see the in car video taken at the last race of the season.  Not a great finish as you will see.  Special Thanks to Eric LaFleche of Victory Lane Forum for putting his camera in our car.  We look forward to doing it again this year.  Visit his site there are a lot of cool videos and pictures there.  www.victorylaneforum.com

Things are starting to come together...

....and fall apart already.  Monadnock Speedway announced yesterday that the Outlaw Pros and Late Models will alternate weeks until June.  This means for us that we will miss 3 races.  Not that bad but what is in store for our 2 divisions down the road?  The reason given was the economy.  I guess this really makes no sense to me because the track will still be running without one or the other.  This is without a doubt going to hurt the back gate and front gate, how's that for economics.  Rob Williams had a great idea of pushing the starting date back for the season.  I totally agree what is the reasoning for starting the season so early?  Give the teams a little extra time to get ready, let mother nature warm up and I think that would be more beneficial to the track and teams rather than skip weeks for divisions.  That being said it looks like April 19th we could use as a practice date or take the night off.  May 3rd we will run at All-Star Speedway in Epping, NH. and May 17th we hope to run at Canaan Fair Speedway.

We want to thank Leo Barnett for taking his day off this past weekend to weld our chassis for us.  He did an awesome job and we really appreciate it.  Thanks Leo!!!

The car is now all welded together and off the jig.  The list of things to do seems to be 5 miles long.  Every day we are making progress though.  Right now we are working on getting the seat, seat belts and steering into the car.  This takes some time as we want Bryon to concentrate on driving the race car not trying to get comfortable.  I started out by moving both of the headrests and then I cut off 1/2 an inch under his arms off the rib supports.  He liked that much better.  This weeks projects are going to be finish mounting the seat, and steering, mount the skid pan, drive shaft hoops, brake lines and plate the door bars.  If all goes well maybe we will get to start the interior sheetmetal.  That is it for now.

The Days are winding down...

We attended the Monadnock Speedway Awards Banquet last night.  A good time was had by all, it was great to see all of our racing friends that we haven't seen since the end of the season.  I was talking to Russ Hersey for a while, he was telling me about his plans for the upcoming season.  He will not be returning to the dog on a full time basis.  Some things start to mean more in life and some a little less.  We just wanted to let their team no that it was a lot of fun running door to door with them over the past few seasons, and we wish them well wherever the 88 shows up this season.  The economy seemed to be a topic of discussion too.  The start of the banquet had a Nascar official drop a big downer on everyone about the state of short track racing, not the best way to start a banquet in my opinion.  I hope to see everyone returning this season so we can put on a great show for the fans and it was great to race against MOST of you.  Hopefully we will all race better in 2008 so I can say all of you.

Now onto other things.  The days are winding down until practice day is here, we have a schedule with deadlines to make this happen.  So far so good.  As of today we have 68 days until practice day is here.  That will be here before we know it.  We finished our back up car yesterday, known to us as "Bad Larry"  We loaded it up and put it away so we would have more room to work on the new car.  Bryon has been calling it skully.  I don't know why we name the cars, kinda funny but when you are in the garage sometimes you are talking to them so you might as well name them....lol.  Hopefully no one will send the loony bin to pick us up now that I have wrote that.  The car is scheduled to be welded this coming weekend.  We are just about ready for that.  We have a few parts on order to upgrade from the old car that we stripped to build this one. I sent in our old seat belts to Impact Racing and for 63 dollars and shipping they have an exchange program.  It is a great deal and the belts are really nice.  Anybody with belts 5 years old or older needs to replace them.  Contact them they will set you up and we had ours within a week.  I will put up more pictures in the next day or two.  2008 Gallery

Monadnock Speedway Banquet Approaches...

As the 2008 Monadnock Speedway Awards Banquet approaches us we continue to build our new chassis.  Today it was announced that Monadnock Speedway would re-nig on the rule they had changed.  That being the built engined cars could take off 100 pounds to try to even things up.  Today it was said that after talking to engine builders they felt that the crate engined cars would have a significant disadvantage.  Bryon and I talked at length tonight about what we want to do.  As disappointed as we are we have decided to pursue that Championship that has eluded us for the past 20+ years.  We feel that this is our best shot we have taken at it.  Having two stout cars in our stable and backing from some great sponsors we hope to sit where Russ Hersey will at this years banquet.  Who knows maybe a fastburn 400 "Optimized" to our competitors specs will end up under the hood of our car sometime this season.  The chassis is almost ready to be welded and then we can start on brake lines, oil lines, and fuel lines.  We are very excited to race this car.  Not too bad for a couple of hillbillys from NH.....lol  2008 Gallery

Making Progress On Both Cars

I added more pictures this morning.

January 3, 2008

Hope Everyone had a great New Year!  I added a few more pictures today.  I saw the Pass Outlaw schedule yesterday that does not look too promising for us.  Most of the races are being held on Saturdays and there are no races at Canaan or Twin State Speedway which are our other favorite tracks.  I guess time will tell, we did discuss maybe running the Sunday show at Wiscassett but who knows.  Right now we plan on running at Monadnock for the season.   2008 Gallery

Still working hard on the cars tonight we pulled the engine out of Bad Larry and set it in the new chassis.  The chassis is coming along quickly.  We have to pick up some more steel at Osgoods Welding this week and bend a few more pipes there as well and then we can complete the front half of the chassis.  We set a goal tonight to have the car ready for paint by the end of February....hope we can do it!  I have a new gallery with pics of the new chassis being built.  Click the link to check it out. 2008 Gallery

December 25, 2007

The past two weeks we have made a lot of progress in the shop, even with all of the snow clean up we had to do.  Our steel came in and Bryon and I got right to work on the chassis.  A lot of people think this stuff is easy.  It's not that it is hard but you have to do a lot of thinking and preparing before you start bending and cutting stuff.  Especially with the cost of steel these days being a lower budget team we really can't afford to make any mistakes.  We need every dollar we have to finish this car. That being said we made several templates and jigs to get the parts right.  Setting the halo took some time but we wanted to make sure it was perfect.

While Bryon has been working hard on the new chassis I have been working on Bad Larry getting him all fixed up for next season.  Seekonk took a little bit of a toll on the body.  I took the nose and fenders off and started working on the bumper and got that all squared away.  I took the drive shaft out and fixed the rear end leak.  The drive shaft needs to be worked on, I think the pan hard bar moved during the race and it rubbed on it and left a small groove on it.  We still have a long road ahead of us.  100 Days until practice day is here.

One last thought about the crate engines.  Why don't we have a claim rule?  I know whose I would buy first......

Full Steam Ahead at the B & B Race Shop

So what is going on at the shop??? Well we cut the old center cage out of the car and gave it away.  We then laid out the new frame rails and pinned all the fixtures to the jig.  Now both cars have fixtures that are pinned for locations of different points on the chassis.  This makes reparing the chassis very easy to do if we have to.  Our body came in and was destroyed so now we have to deal with a trucking company to get the claims done....what a pain in the ass.  We picked up the hoops at Osgoods the other day and now we have to get the rest of our steel.

With recent talks of the rules of the crate versus the built engines getting evened up this makes us very happy.  I am glad that Monadnock finally came to their senses and looked at what other tracks have been doing to make things equal.  Now if we can get them to change the left side percentage they will be right where they need to be and I will be satisfied with that.

Stay tuned for more updates and I will be listing some parts that we will be selling during the off Season!

Have a Great Holiday Season!!

Crew Member Continues B & B Racings Stellar Season

The crew member would be me....I raced my second Go Kart race of the season at Hotlaps Karting Center a couple weeks ago.  The race was called "The Ass Backwards 100"  well as you can probably guess the race was run the opposite way which was cool but it beat the hell out of me.

The way the guys at Hotlaps do this is you have a 10 minute practice/qualifying session.  I got a kart that the seat was a bit too big for me but I did well qualifying 3rd out of 8 racers.  I decided I would switch karts to one that fit me better.  Well it did fit me better but it did not handle as good as the first one I had.

The race started and my kart had not warmed up at all and the tires were cold and the brakes were really sticky.  I took it easy for the first 5 laps and then drove the kart a little too hard, three laps in a row I nearly spun out and lost a ton of track position.  I was back to 5th and a long way from the leaders.  I paced myself for the first half of the race so I wouldn't get too tired and then I made a push.  I slowly reeled in everyone but the leader.  I did get lapped 2 times by him but I learned a lot by following him as much as I could.  I was able to make my way back to second, not bad finishing second to a guy that runs every endurance race at the track.  I was thrilled and I can't wait to run again.

This coming weekend is the "Gobbler 200"  100 laps forward 100 laps backward!  For a great time go down and run the race with us!!!

Now onto racing news....

Let's see so far we have done absolutely nothing....lol  Bryon has been busy getting his property ready for winter and I have been working on projects at home that have been neglected all racing season.  The new body has been ordered and the new car was started earlier this summer, but we decided to scrap the center section and start over.  That cage is from 1988 and we just said new is just as easy to do.  We are still on the fence in regards to the crate engine.  Not sure stay tuned for that one.  We have a new sponsor for the 2008 season.  RT Raceparts the biggest thing is Rob will be getting us outfitted with Skull Gear from Torco Racing Fuels INC. and  Skull Shine to keep all of our stuff nice and shiny as many of you know I am pretty obsessed about keeping the car looking mint for our great sponsors.  We are looking for more sponsors for the 2008 season, so if you would like your name on our car please contact us.  No amount is too small we will find a place for you on the car.  I have a bunch of pictures to put up but first I am going to start revamping the website.

Until Next Time

B & B Racing Goes to the Cement Palace......

Coming off a great finish at Twin State Speedway we decided to run at Seekonk this weekend.  This almost did not happen as Jills Grandfather passed away and the team was going to stay home with the family.  However with the persuasiveness of Jill and Her Grandmother urging us to go we decided to race in his honor.

The car was finished and loaded Friday night.  We would have loved to participate in the Friday practice but we just did not have the extra grand in the racing budget to do it.

We left Claremont at 5:45 Saturday Morning in a Caravan with Bodreau Motorsports.  We arrived at the track around 9:30 and got settled in.  It was apparent right off that the track was not prepared for this event.  Nobody seemed to know what was going on.  Practice started at 10:00 we did not hit the track until almost 12:30.  The car was pretty good but a bit on the loose side.  The driveshaft was also hitting the pan hard bar so we could not get that as low as I would have liked.  We came back in and made several changes to the car.  We adjusted the front springs, sway bar, ph bar, pulled a spring rubber and adjusted the shocks.

Round 2 the car was a half second faster and had a bit of a push.  After talking to Todd Annarummo he gave me some advice on how to run this tricky 1/3 mile which I passed on to Bryon.  It seemed to help we just need to make a few more adjustments.  We adjusted the shocks, added a spring rubber for the qualifier along with 4 new tires.

I drew 30 out of 40 so that set us up for a bad starting spot in the heat race.  We started 8th in the 3rd heat.  They would be sending 7 cars home after the heats and the consi.  That put the heat on us and meant we had to be on our game.  Bryon made quick work getting into a qualified spot for the heat race on the start he got a nice jump and passed 3 cars.  He lost one spot and just rode for 15 laps and got the final spot from our heat.....we made it!  I could see Bryons confidence building as he got more and more comfortable out there.

Saturday Night the team had a great dinner at TGIF's followed by Go Kart racing!  We all had a blast even though we couldn't get Bryon to run with us....must be he is sick of wheeling a loose race car this year....lol

Sunday Morning we had a practice at Noon after the pit party.  The temperature was about 35 degrees cooler than Saturday so we went ahead and made changes to the car and the car was flying in our practice we got down into the 12.7  range which is an average of about 93 miles an hour!  We tightened the car up for the feature and got to the starting grid in the 18th spot.

The strategy was to just miss the wrecks and take spots as we could get them.  We rode in about the 17th spot for around the first 50 or so laps.  Bryon was getting beat on by all the local boys and just held his own in there with them.  We started making headway around this time.  Slowly making our way forward the car was really coming to us when Bryon was looking to move into the top 10 the caution came out and the 4 car checked up and tore up the right front of the car.  It was not bad enough for me to want to give up 10 spots on the track.  The car did pick up a push after that so Bryon did what he could for the rest of the race.  The car was still fast we just had too much power for the track and he rode at 1/4 throttle and passed a couple more cars and brought the car home in the 9th spot!  The team was thrilled and we now have a better idea of what to bring for next season!

We are ending our season on a great note and we will now start working on the new car.  We will then sit down with a sponsor and see if it is a feasable decision to get a crate engine for the 2008 season.  I mean Monadnock Speedway is catering to them so we may as well join them.  I mean 2% and 200 pounds is unheard of in any racing series.  Everywhere else it is 1% 100 pounds or 100 pounds only can't they see this???  Now when I show up with a legal crate engine you can bet your ass I will be bitching about the cheated up ones.  Keep checking in to see what is new with our team through out the winter months.

Bryon Finishes 3rd @ Twin State Speedway running with the Pass Outlaw Series

The last 2 weeks Bryon and I have spent in the garage paid off with a 3rd place finish at our former home track Twin State Speedway.  The car was badly damaged at Monadnock our last race there and it took a ton of work to get it ready for this race.

We started at an early hour this week with practice starting at 10AM we got to the track at 8AM to prepare for practice.  We got on the track the first practice the team was kinda worried about running a locked rear end, after all we only have run it that way in a handful of races throughout our careers, so we were unsure of how it would work for us with the tight turns at TSS.  To say we were extremely happy after the practice would be an understatement!  The car drove so good we opted to leave it and run the heat race as it was.

We Started on the pole in the 2nd heat.  We knew this was definetly a huge advantage for us.  After all Bryon has almost 20 years experience running on this tricky track.  He sailed to the win handily...this would put us on the outside of the front row next to our long time competitor Walt Hammond who won the first heat race.

Sunday morning we got to the track around 11am and we weren't going to run a practice but after a talk on the way to the track Bryon thought we could make the car even better by making a few minor changes to the car.  We did that and the car was better...after the practice I wanted to change one more thing and we also wanted to bleed the brakes.  I got to looking at the brakes and they were smoking so we decided it would be a good idea to put our brake ducts back on.

We took the green for the feature and B got a great start and run into turn one to take the lead.  Over the next forty laps Walt put the presure on and took the lead just before the half way point of the race.  The race only had a couple of cautions and Walt and Bryon battled just like the old days it was a lot of fun to watch but our car just kept getting looser as the laps wound down.  Donnie Lashua got to the inside of us and got by and the car was really a handful with Jimmy Rosenfield putting the pressure on us now we were happy to see a caution/Checkered finish, we were able to hang on to the 3rd spot.  The team was thrilled with this!  Next week we will be running at Seekonk Speedway for the DAV Memorial race and that will be it for our outstanding season.  Maybe we can put the car in Victory Lane to end our season!

Congrats to Walt Hammond on his 3rd win of the season and to Donnie Lashua on his 2nd place finish.

Bryon finishes 11th on Championship Night in the Backstretch Wall....

The night was going well with everyone joking and carrying on looking forward to a long season to end.  Our car was going good, finishing 3rd in the heat it slated us to start 6th in the feature.

We started out the feature moving backward a few position but we would get a break and get in the right line on the next caution and make a bid for 3rd on lap 22 we got a nice run off turn two but Jr Colson had other ideas as he cut left on Bryon breaking something in the front of our car shooting Bryon straight into the wall.  Thankfully he was ok and the car bent and broke everywhere it was supposed too.  This all could have been avoided by one simple word....INSIDE.  Yeah Jr you know we were there Bryon saw you look over your shoulder and turn left.  That being said we are left with a pile in the garage....

bent lower a frame
broken upper a frame
bent tie rod
bent strut rod
bent spindle
broken rotor
broken hub
bent shock
smashed nose
smashed fender
smashed qtr
smashed tail
broken spoiler
wrecked wheel
flat tire
wrecked drive shaft
wrecked bumper
wrecked nerf bars

Thanks to all the officials at Monadnock Speedway for yet another fun year and our most successful yet.  We hope that the date for the rules meeting gets changed for a different week other than a week of one of the biggest open shows of the season.  We would like to express a few of our thoughts on some of the rules.  We are still up in the air about where we will run next year and this meeting will help us determine that.

Congratulations to Russ Hersey on winning the championship and to Jeff Zuidema on his 5th win of the season it has been a pleasure running against class acts like you guys!  If only many of our competitors could get lessons from you.

Look for some new pictures to be added and check back in the off season to see our progress on the new Stinger Chassis being built in our shop....

Bryon Wins by Inches in a Photo Finish!!!!

Wow what a night!  All of the hard work the crew put in at the shop this week paid huge dividends for the team!  Bryon said that the 29 crew had apologized for their actions from the previous week, well everyone except for the person who actually did it, and they still kept our trophy...lol.

The night actually went really smoothly.  We didn't do anything to the car really it was perfect right from the time the gate dropped on the trailer.  I did have to change the radio wiring harness it seems like there was a loose connection or something so I climbed in the car it must have been 150 degrees in there.  That did suck but it seems to have fixed the problem.

We started the heat race in the 2nd position and took the lead right off and ran for a few laps until Russ caught us and flew by.  At the end of the race Bryon said the engine made a weird noise and actually thought the engine may have broke.  That made for a few tense moments in our pit.  We pulled the valve covers and checked all of the valve train and it all checked out, the only thing we could think was it fouled a plug or hit the rev limiter.  We did turn our fastest lap ever at Monadnock that lap 13.04.  Thanks to the 42 team who were right there to lend us a hand!  That is what I do love about Monadnock is the teams and comraderie amongst them!

The feature had us starting in the 4th position and Bryon had one thing on his mind.  Getting to the lead and that he did by the 3rd lap he was in the lead and pulling away.  The caution flew 2 times, each time taking away the big lead that Bryon had driven to.  He said the car was nearly perfect.  The last caution put Russ Hersey right on our bumper.  Now I was worried, his car has been nothing but dominant the last few weeks.  Bryon got a great restart and as I expected Russ started challenging us he got to the out side once and we fought him off.  Then with 2 to go we got in just a little hot and Russ got to the out side setting up and exciting finish.  Inch by inch Russ drove up beside Bryon and by the time they got to the line the crowd was on there feet for probably one of the closest finishes ever at the dog.  We won merely by inches and I had no clue if we won and neither did Bryon.  I said well if you are handed the checkered flag I guess You'll know!  Bryon got the checkers and we had our second win of the year!  Makes all of the hard work we put in the garage doing everything ourselves very gratifying.

Bryon Crosses the line 5th but Pass says Otherwise.  Officially a 10th place Finish

We had decided last week if we had a good run on Saturday night we would travel to Canaan Fair Speedway to run the PASS Outlaw Race.  We worked on the car on Sunday from 10 am until Midnight getting ready.  We had many things to overcome.  From the quickchange hitting the panhard bar and chassis to the front shocks not fitting right. During the teardown I found a problem with one of the shocks that I had missed which was the reason for the car being loose for the past 2 weeks.  That now is on the weekly checklist. The easiest thing about getting the car ready was the set up.  We had a pretty good idea of what we wanted to do,  I was pretty nervous about running such a soft set up in the car but time would tell how it worked.

We got to the track a little bit late so we were a scrambling a little bit but not too much.  Learning the way that they do things there took a while and led to some frustrations amongst the team.  I drew 28th.....which put us in the 4th starting spot for our heat race but first we had practice.  The car was pretty good the first round of practice just a bit loose in and we came in to make an adjustment on the car but miscommunication on my part screwed us up so we did not make it back out for that round of practice.  Round 2 saw our change improve the car a lot.  We had a plan and pitted 2 more times during that practice and we had a good car.

The heat race went pretty smoothly.  The breather fell off and hung the throttle open a bit on the second lap, Bryon was able to shake it off and slowly real in the lead pack and finish in the 5th spot.  The car was skidding the left front tire and pushing up the hill so I made a couple of changes to the car to help that problem.

We started the feature in the 12th spot and Bryon said we had a real good car.  He was just biding his time and kept missing wrecks and kept ending up at the back of the line.  He went off the backstretch avoiding a car and beat up the bottom of the car pretty good and pulled the center of the nose piece down.  The car was fine and still going really good.  He made it up to the 9th spot and a car spun in front of him and we had to stop (this is the where we lost a lap under yellow)  The leaders were in turn 1 and we were in turn 4.  The rule is (now that I know) is basically even if the yellow is out pass as many cars as possible to lap them until the pace car picks you up.  Bryon was backing up trying to get going and here come the leaders wide open and pass us.  Bryon pulled right beside him but the track worker was on the track so he didn't want to go flying by.  We thought we were on the lead lap the crowd thought we were as did the leaderboard.  This was around lap 55 and they never fixed the leaderboard!  We went to the back of the field and Bryon marched from 17th to 4th under green in about 25 laps.  He clearly was one of the fastest cars out there and on the move.  They showed us as 4th on the board around lap 70 when there was another caution.  The car was awesome, the all of a sudden it got really loose.  Bryon held on for the next 30 laps with the 22 pounding on his LR for the final 10(hmmm that sounds familiar....)  We crossed the line 5th!  I was ecstatic with the day!  Now we just had to go weigh in and go home.  We later found out the car was loose because the pinion seal came out and was spraying oil on the rr tire.

We went to the scales and Scott Reed said we were a lap down.  I was bullshit, I was polite but I wanted an explanation.  He said whining would get us no where.  Who was whining I just wanted to know what happened.  So I just pushed the car back to the trailer with the team and we were all disappointed and frustrated to have our hard earned finish taken from us.  Not to mention the 200 dollars we lost which could have helped us possibly attend one more of their shows this year not sure now.  Scott then came back over after talking with mom and tried to clear things up but came up with the excuse that there are no yellow lights between turns at Canaan, well then make a call that we are fine after all you are the race director.  I guess at least now I know the rule as stupid and dangerous as it may be I guess knowing is half the battle.

I can't wait for the Twin State Speedway race!!  Good people to race with too!!

I also wanted to thank Caesar @ Rebound Technologies who built us a kick ass set of shocks for Canaan!

Bryon loses 2nd on last lap takes home 3rd

The day moved along fairly well we made some changes to the car this week that put us into the 13.1 second range this week. We did have a minor problem with the new power steering cooler leaking.  We took care of that and it was on to the heat.

We started on the outside of the front row and quickly moved to the lead and pretty much won going away.  The car was really good.  We made a small adjustment to the pan hard bar to try and get some more forward bite for the feature.

The feature race was marred by 9 caution flags.  We started in the 6th spot and moved up to 4th and had a hard time getting by the 15 who was all over the track.  We finally got by him and put the pressure on JR Colson He bobbled coming off the 4th turn and Bryon stuck it down beside him and they made hard contact  nothing major just a racing deal though.  After several restarts and the car freeing up more and more we just did not have anything for Phil Meany.  There was a caution in turn 4 on the final lap the officials opted for a green white checkered finish rather than a yellow checkered finish.  This definetly did not go in our favor.  We were in second hanging on as Barry Gray pounded on our bumper for the final 10 laps of the race.  You really can't get back in the throttle when someone is rooting you off every corner, so Bryon had no choice but to slow down or spin.  This let Russ Hersey buzz us both on the top groove....yeah 29 there is a top groove you woulda had second if you went out there.

So we finished third and were enjoying our time in victory lane when the 29 was called back to the track for winning the triple crown.  This is where I got pissed.  We keep to ourselves and try to have fun and hang out with everybody.  When the 29 crew walked by us and called Bryon a dirty driver and a piece of shit that really showed their class.  They have none.  Barry proceeded to whine about us chopping him, I never saw you up to our qtr panel although he did a nice job pounding in the rear bumper.  The flagman never showed us the 29 flag that told us to move over for you.  Go to the outside Russ did and Bryon gave him all the room in the world.  Just as he would you but there is no way he was giving up the bottom with 2 to go.  We were then told by their crew Bryon better tighten his belts this week because he is gonna get wrecked.....hmmmmm sounds like a threat to me I thought that wasn't allowed at Monadnock??  I was kind enough to give my trophy to the 29 crew as they feel they deserved it, I hope you guys enjoy it.  They are the biggest bunch of poor sports in that pit area.  That's about all I have to say about that.

Monday September 3rd We are going to run the PASS Outlaw 100 @ Canaan Fair Speedway.  Hope to see you there!!

JZ gave me a great quote a while ago so I had to get a refresher on what it was... "if somebody put wheels on a bullet some asshole would drive it....."  lol  He told me his Dad used to say that....

Congratulations Phil Meany on your win!

Our 2nd DNF of the Season

Our night ended on lap 10 when the throttle hung wide open.  Bryon was lucky enough to hit the kill switch.  We will look into it further this week.  Look for a write up in the next day or two.

Ok we got into the car today and a big gob of rubber flew up into the throttle linkage and was holding the accelerator pump down.  I would like to think we had a car capable of winning but it was not to be.  I was really ticked that the race was back to green before our car even got to our pit stall.  That is bullshit, we support this track week in and week out and this is how you get treated.  If I had a couple laps I would have seen it and we could have made it back out.  It is making our 2008 plans become a little more clearer with every diss we take.  Congrats to Russ on taking the Outside line straight into Victory Lane Again.  The pit area was a mad house after the race.  I was trying my best to keep JZ in his pit but he kept running off and I guess I can't blame him after I was told what happened.  I just think the kid should have been dq'ed all together not just moved back to a spot behind the guy he dumped.

On that note I was not happy that the track put our safety in jeopardy over money.  The infield was soaked and after the last rain delayed race a few weeks ago when Bryon got dumped and slid through the infield going at least 80 mph and picking up speed I just thought it was stupid.  Tom Baldwin lost his life @ Thompson 2 years ago because of a similar situation and I for one was fine with coming back another day to race.

Lately I have been on a huge safety kick double checking everything on the car to make sure it is as safe as possible.  This past week I finally talked Bryon into getting a Hans Device a little earlier than he intended but IMO it is well worth it to spend the money now because you never know what a day on the track tomorrow holds.  I have also been trying to get another close friend of mine to get one and I think I may have finally succeeded.  This means a lot to us because you are a great person and ambassador to the sport.  Thanks "Mayor".

We are trying to get our quick change rear end together and our shocks back from Rebound Technologies so we can run the Pass Outlaw race this coming Monday Sept 3rd at our old stomping grounds Canaan Fair Speedway.  Bryon has a great track record there with 2 wins and 18 top 10 finishes in 2 years.  We think we have a good shot at that one so if all the cards fall into place we are going to try to make it up there for that one.

Get Well Soon Teddy Hebert!!  Heard You were still sore from your wreck Sat.

From The Dog House

This week I am just going to add my two cents to what Phillie has already written. I think that for the most part, we are a very close knit bunch in the pits. We may have some rough times on the track, but it is usually pretty tame after the fact. I really enjoy the
neighbors that we have in the pits and I am glad that we can help each other when really needed. I would like to add, that since joining B&B Racing last year, that I have felt very much at home, and that my opinion does matter to Bryon and Phillie. Phil and
Rachel have been awesome too. They are good at knowing when something bugs me and are quick to help me get back on track. Also Jill, when she can be there, has got to be one of the most laid back and humble person I have ever known. Also to the whole team for making my son Dylan a part of the "gang". I know he is really enjoying himself with you. See ya at the track.

Bryon Hangs on for 6th....

I want to start the column by thanking the crew for all they do from marking the tires to putting away the radios and all in between it really does make the team run smoothly and I really appreciate all you guys do. So thanks Mom, Dad, Dylan, Grant, Ailee, Bryon and Jill.  A team is only as good as its players and we have a damn good one IMO.

This week we were able to repair our primary rear end and get it back in the car.  We went out for practice and the car was real good turning in a fast lap of 13.2.  We got under the car to check everything on the rear end to make sure everything was tight and not leaking.  The vent was puking a little oil so we had to MacGuyver an overflow can onto the chassis.  It worked well now we will have to move the vent tube.

We had to start the heat in the 4th spot and we passed one car and managed to bring home a 3rd place finish with a ill handling car.  The set of tires we are running are evil to say the least.  I am glad to be rid of them this week.  While I am talking about tires I have to apologize to Andy Christmas for throwing him under the bus last week about the tire program.  What I failed to realize was the 2 "emergency" tires can be used at any time during the year.  I think you are doing a great job with the tire program!  Keep up the good work.

Jeff Z mangled his car up in his heat race so we showed our sportsmanship once again by helping a team.  Thanks Dave for the Beers after the show!!!  Having people like this is what racing is all about.  I really like the people more than the racing!! lol

The feature rolled onto the track with us starting in the 7th spot.  I really didn't know what to expect the tires were shit to say the least.  So we swapped stuff around and got close to what we needed.  The green flew and we made our way up to 5th and couldn't really make any progress on the initial start the car pushed up into someone B wasn't sure who it was though. The car was tight in and free off the whole race.  The caution flew for a spin and we lined up in what I thought was a good line......nope I was wrong.  We were kinda trapped for a bit and made a few moves and got back up to 5th again.  Bryon got to the 15 car and he was really free after a few laps and was really wheeling the hell out of his car so Bryon decided that the 15 was so loose he would try the top groove.  We drove into turn 3 on the outside of him and he gave us the lane coming off the turn Bryon got outside of him and they made contact sending Brandon through the infield.  B felt bad about it he tried to check up but they still made contact.  I think there was one more caution and we slid back to 6th and rode there pretty much the rest of the race.  Brandon made another try to get by us at the end with it ending up in contact....did we come down? I didn't think so I think we started our corner entry and just got together.  No harm no foul IMO.  We finished up 6th all in all a decent night. I also want to thank the guys from the 15 for being civil when they came to our pit after the race as those types of encounters can sometimes be heated.

As it gets toward the end of the year we have to begin looking to open races which we hope to choose a couple in the next few weeks.  We definetly will be running at Twin State Speedway on September 28th & 29th for the Pass Outlaw race.  Bryon has a million laps there and we think we will do well.

Congrats to Russ Hersey on yet another victory, Barry Gray for 2nd and a Great showing by Jr. Colson to bring home 3rd!

From The Dog House w/GDog

Hi folks. Welcome to the first edition of "The Dog House". Let me start by saying, "way to go to Beth Adams and Adam Brooks". It is always good to have new faces in victory lane. You both deserve it.  Now, the rest of the story. In my opinion, the only way you can have a fair "crate program", is if the track owns it's own crate engines for each division. If a crate car wins, instead of just saying "the seals are still there", it should be "pull your engine and take ours in it's place. And then while the track has that engine, it will be dynoed. If the
numbers are not what they should be, then we will take our's back and keep yours too.  Don't get me wrong. I think that the crates are a great "option" for the lower budget teams, but the rest of them are now able to take advantage of some really biased special rules for the crate engines. This is not fair to those that build their own, and to those that can't afford to "Dr." their crates. Well,
that will get me in enough hot water for the first try at "The Dog House". Hope to keep it going.

Thanks for reading,

Bryon Motors to a 2nd Place Finish!!

This week in the garage we found a couple things wrong with the car.  This is why it pays to have a good maintenance program.  The broken hub and loose shoulder bolt on the swaybar adjuster could have been disastrous.  The crew worked well into Saturday afternoon getting the car ready finally pulling out of the yard at 2:15 we got to the track with plenty of time for practice.

I noticed a couple odd things this week one car I noticed has had sticker tires on for the 3rd week in a row that I have seen.  The tire rule states only 2 tires per week so you could run 4 tires every other week but this was the 100 lapper (you get 2 extras for extra distance races)  4 tires last week and 4 tires this week.....the  second thing I thought was funny was we had to dismount a tire after our heat race, that was great I am glad the officials are checking for tire conditioners. What I found funny was the team I watched standing there grinning from ear to ear as if  they thought all of us were soaking our tires....nope sorry guys just been working hard on our chassis....maybe you should spend all the energy you spend on bitching and put it into research.  Just because you don't bitch in front of everyone doesn't mean you don't do it......believe me people see you do it.

Lots of people have been asking us lately what is in store for 2008?  Well 2008 is up in the air right now.  We are waiting on a few things before we make our decision.  First off we are planning on running a couple of Outlaw Pass shows at the end of the year to see how we like that. (that is my vote half the races with the same amount of racing)  Secondly we are waiting to see what the track is going to do with the engine program and if they are willing to make changes to the rules to bring things a little closer for all and most importantly a dyno program for the crate engines.  The day that happens I may be willing to buy one because I think we have a great set up under our car and it will be even better with the new car currently being put together on our jig.

Last week we had the track pit party always a fan favorite night.  I always enjoy this night the schedule is usually so busy I don't get to check out the other cars in the pits.  The fans love meeting the drivers and Bryon is getting a lot of new fans too.  I think he is great with the kids and I don't even think he minds signing autographs either....lol  Thanks to all of the fans who made this night successful once again.

Now onto the racing.  We started our heat in the 4th spot and slid back to 5th.  Bryon made a couple of moves and got up to the 3rd spot then he tried to get by Rob Williams and just couldn't get the car to turn under him so we finished up in 3rd.  We came to the pits greeted by Red who said he wanted our right front tire (as mentioned above)  So I wheeled it over to the tire truck and dismounted it.  We passed with no issue, I ran the tire back to the truck and Pop blew it back up so that it did not shrink from being let down so fast.

The feature event saw us starting in the 7th spot.  At the drop of the green Bryon had a mission get to the front!  He made a move to get up to the 5th spot when the caution would fly for a spin in turn 1.  On the restart he picked off a couple more and by lap 15 he was up to second with Russ Hersey in tow.  Adam Brooks got out front and Bryon said the car was free all the way through so he adjust the brakes a little and got the car a little better on corner entry and adjusted the traction control (his right foot to his brain) for corner exit.  With 10 to go it seemed like Brooks was out of reach until we started reeling him in. This is where it got a little confusing to me.  The way I saw it and I could be way wrong( I will look at the tape this week) I told Bryon 2 to go but I didn't see the signal for 2 to go until lap 39 and on lap 40 I saw the white flag so I just told him to race back one more time Brooks kept going too, Bryon dove inside of him going into turn three and beat him back to the line on lap41 where the checkers were being shown.  Bryon thought the same.  Chan said no he did show them it could have been my angle from the pit stands but it is better to be safe than sorry.  Either way we had a great night and all of the people from the Coffee House were there to celebrate with us!  Thanks Guys!!

Grant aka Gdog to us said he may write up something from the dog house to give us his take on the nights events......no pressure Grant....lol

Congrats to Adam Brooks on his first Outlaw Pro Win and to Russ Hersey on his 3rd place finish.

I have few pictures I am going to scan check back later in the week to see them!

Till Next Week

Bryon brings the car home in 4th!

I wanted to thank a few of our sponsors who helped get us back on the track after our wreck on July 21st.  Osgood's Welding, Lou's Auto Body. Trans Tech Performance, Phil' Signs N Stripes.  Thanks to the crew for putting in a lot of hours to fix a badly damaged race car.  The rear clip was bent 6 inches to the left.  The body destroyed everyone did a great job getting the car in tip top shape!

This week was pretty uneventful.  We took the track in practice and the car felt decent we decided to run the heat the way it was and see how it panned out.  We finished the heat race 2nd.  The car was a bit tight so I made an adjustment to the sway bar which I shouldn't have.  The car freed up way too much for the feature.  We started the feature in the 7th spot.  We then moved to the 6th spot because the 5ma had to pit.  The outside lane was not too good all night.  Bryon made his way forward getting as high as 4th and maintaining the spot for most of the race.  He made a good run at Barry Gray at the end of the race but we just lacked forward bite and could not get the car to turn under him.  We have made adjustments to the car this week we found 2 major problems in the front end which should help the car immensly.  I guess that is all for this week.  Congrats JZ on another win and Russ and Barry on your podium finishes.

A great night for B & B Racing ended in Disaster

The Kayem Hot Dog 100 looked like we could make it back to back wins but it was not to be.  Bryon took the lead on lap 18 and the car was a touch tight.  He was biding his time just logging laps and the car was coming to him.  We had really put on a good pace lapping about 11 cars.  That is when disaster struck.  I am still not completely sure what happened but I think it went something like this.  Rob Williams and Adam Brooks got together and Bryon had the car turned down to where I think he would have avoided it but Barry Gray was unable to get slowed down and got into the back of us and Bryon hit Rob Williams hard.  The race was red flagged and I couldn't tell how bad the damage was.  When Bryon came in the crew busted ass to get him back out.  It was really bad.  The rear clip was bent badly but it was behind the suspension, the rear quarters and spoiler were destroyed.  I told Bryon the car was good to go but I had no idea how it would go with no spoiler.  The next 10 minutes was spent fooling around with the lineup.  What I don't get is we tried to go where we should have been but the track kept putting us back, that was until Russ went up there and we followed and then we were ok?  Ok I guess....Once we went back to green Bryon started going forward which was very surprising to say the least.  He got all the way up to 5th but a lapped car took up every lane on the track and Russ snuck by Bryon thumped the 6x to show him he was not happy.  We almost had a top 5 but I will take 6th any day especially after the car was damaged as badly as it was.

WE WON!!!!!

Well after 3 and a half years we made our way back to victory lane!  I forgot how good that feels.  We have been working our butts off these last few weeks.  The big change in the front of the car this week was the missing link.  The car was hooked up on the outside.  We started the night out by winning the heat, that was great but Bryon felt a vibration in the car.  We decided to change the transmission and it was a lot better there is something still not right but I am confident we will find it this week.

We started the feature in the 4th spot after having a couple tough weeks we were hoping to get it going in the right direction again.  We slid back a little at the start but got lucky with a caution.  Once the field went green Bryon took to the high side and drove the car in a ton and it stuck that gave him the ok to go up top.  We took the lead in short order and drove away until about 10 laps to go when Russ Hersey caught us but was unable to get around us!

Congrats to Russ and Jeff on their finishes!

We Got dumped.....and lapped=12th Place

June 11, 2007

Well I finally got my new computer....A lot has happened since then. The car made it over to The Coffee Shop in Wilmington Vermont and a bunch of fans got to meet Bryon and Grant.  Getting home was another story.  The transmission blew about 30 miles from home.  With some help from a few friends Bryon was able to get the stuff home.  Thanks Gary Baker, Earl Moule, and Washington St. Mobil for all of your help.

Now on to racing I can tell you one thing I am sick of getting run into.  The last two races we have been smashed a bunch of times and Bryon has had enough.

This week we were in a battle with tires.  It seems that the junk Pass tires have now made their way down to us.  Our RR from the previous week had 50 laps on it and it was an absolute piece of crap.  We had to run a tire on the RR with 180 laps on it....but it was actually really good surprisingly enough.

The heat race went well Bryon was stuck for a while but we still managed to qualify.  Car counts have been up lately so we have to qualify to start towards the front.  That is great I hope we can get everyone there the same week and we will have a full field.

We started the feature in the 6th spot and Bryon was being patient with the cars in front of him as he was faster just waiting for things to sort out.  10 laps into the race seems Phil Meany strapped his helmet on too tight again and flat out dumped us.  Sending Bryon sideways through the grass at 80 miles an hour.  Well what do you know no caution...what a bunch of crap.  The guy flat out dumps you and nothing is done about it.  No respect from the track or a competitor.  I understand you don't want our support so you are helping us decide our gameplan for next year.

We got lapped and that was pretty much it a 12th place finish for a car that was capable of winning.

Enough Whining,

Bryon Gets Closer takes home 2nd Place Hardware!!

I want to welcome our newest Sponsor to join the B & B Team, the Coffee House in Wilmington, Vt. Stop in they will take care of all of your caffeine needs! Just when I thought we were going to have picture perfect weather I was reminded that mother nature can and will be a bitch any chance she gets! We were coming to the track and could see the black clouds looming in the distance....all of a sudden rain drops as big as half dollars started pelting the "Cadillac" that was a little hairy seeing was not to easy to say the least. We arrived at the track and decided to just wait in the parking lot until the track told us we were going to race. We had already decided we were not going to practice this week so it kinda played into our hands.

When we finally did make it to the track it was for the heat race. I can't remember where we started but I think it was around the 5th spot. Bryon started moving back a little a little bit and then got back into the bottom groove. Going into turn 3 we were up beside Todd Patnode he must not have seen us in there and came down on Bryon. Bryon said he had no idea what hit him and it was a hard shot. The car was not too bad all body damage so we stayed out and finished 4th. The crew worked their asses off getting the car fixed for the feature. I had made a chassis change last week which we did not get to try and it worked really well.

The feature line up had us starting in the 7th spot. The initial start was bullshit. As we were coming down the backstretch the caution lights came back on and I told Bryon so he lifted and lost 2 spots as the track turned them off. I was pissed. We passed 4 cars and the yellow came out and we now sat in the 5th Spot. Rob Williams was just ahead of us and he said his car felt really good so I had high hopes he would be able to go forward. Well go forward he did he made an awesome move to go from 3rd to 1st in a lap and pulled us along with him. We then set our sites on the lead Bryon jumped under Rob off turn 4 to take the lead. Then there was a caution setting us a Duel between Russ and B. Bryon got him on this start and we led for another handful of laps until the caution would fly once again. Duel number two was just that a big number 2 for us. Bryon got the jump but when he shifted the tires spun and Russ now had the upper hand. The caution flew once more and it was now a single file restart. Bryon made one more bid for the lead and Russ shut the door and that was pretty much it for us. The car was really getting free so we were just holding on as Barry Gray was putting the pressure on. A great night once again.

Now I have a few more ideas to try this week. Hopefully the trend will continue as we keep working on the chassis making it faster and faster every week. Maybe next week will be our turn to carry the checkers. Congrats to Russ Hersey and Barry Gray on your Top Three finishes tonight.

Smash Em' Crash Em' Racecars...
Another Podium Finish for Bryon!

Well here we are again.  We had 12 cars show up this week.  What a horror show.  You would think that guys could race together by now.  Nope.  I really don't know how a lot of it happened luckily for us we were in front of it all.  Ron Smith has to clip his car after a run in with the 15 from what he said.  Rob Williams body was about torn off.  Scotty Brooks car was all mangled up...you get the idea here.

Did I mention we only had 12 cars.....WTF?  I guess no one can afford to race any more.  30 bucks to get in the pits 8 bucks a gallon for legal race fuel, 15 to get in the stands, 3.25 for a crappy cheeseburger.....I could go on and on.

Car counts are dwindling and this has me nervous.  I have actively been looking at other rules for other tracks and series.  I always have this fear of getting the boot like we did at Claremont Speedway in 2002.  So if that happens at least we have a plan to continue racing at least for this season.

Well we did make a couple of changes to the car this week but we were a bit off as far as the way the car felt to Bryon.  Lap times were about the same though.  I can say that cars we could pass last week were a whole lot faster this week and there was a funny smell in the air...hmmm.

All in all a great night once again and we are third in the point standings right now.  Maybe next week will be our week??

Congrats to J Z and Russ for their 1st and 2nd place finish.....and Russ I will get that chapstick back to you that you left in our trailer....lol

Bryon finishes 3rd again!!

No controversies this week just good racing!  We made a huge change in the front end at the shop this week.  We were not really happy with the way the car was setting getting into the turns.  I mean this has been one of our best starts in years but we knew the car could be better.  I made a couple of phone calls to Ricci Race Cars and sought out some advice on what I needed to do to get what we wanted.  I have to thank Tony at RRC and Caesar at RT who really helped us step up our program this year.  We took to the track on some old tires and I knew if the car went well on those we would be good.  It was good not perfect but really consistent and within a tenth of a second from the top and bottom groove.  I had a look at the tire temps and we made another small adjustment to the front end and changed our stagger a little and the car was real good.

We started our heat race in 4th I think and made a couple of moves and found ourselves in third putting the pressure on Jeff Z.  Well it didn't take much because he basically pulled up into the third groove to let us go by....lol thanks JZ!  We put the pressure on the 02 of Ron Smith and with 2 to go Bryon pulled to the high side and got beside him and on the white flag lap he drove by him going into turn 3 to take down the heat race win.

We started the feature in the 6th spot and got freight trained in the high line.  I figured we had about a fifth place finish maybe.  Bryon slapped the wall pretty hard about ten laps into the race and thought the rear end bent, because the car got really free but it sure was fast.  I just kept after him to drive it for whatever it was worth.  Next thing I knew we were challenging Jeff for 3rd.  Bryon made a move to get inside of him, but I missed it watching a few lap cars that were up ahead.  I told Bryon he had to make the pass we were coming on lapped traffic.  Coming into turn 3 we were a half a car length up on the 42 and Bryon moved up to go around the lapped car and caught the 42.  Just a racing deal IMO and they both charged down into turn one broadside. It was a hairy moment but we then started to run down the 29 who was a straight away ahead of us.  With 2 to go Bryon had caught him and was getting ready to make a move when the caution flew.  Setting up a green white checkered finish we just were not good enough on a short run to get by him and took another 3rd place finish.

Congrats to Russ on his 2nd win of the season in the Batmobile!! and to Barry Gray on another 2nd place finish.

We rained out this week.....Car is ready to roll Cya at the track!!

May 13, 2007      Bryon Finishes 4th on May 12

This week was definetly crazy.  First we forgot to order tires on Tuesday so we were scrambling to get what we needed.  When that was said and done we needed to scale the car and make adjustments at the track because there is something wrong with the scales at the shop.  That took a while and we barely made our first round of practice.  The car went good and we wanted to try a few different things to see if we could get better.  We made an adjustment for the second round of practice which actually made the car faster but Bryon was not comfortable with the way it felt.  We put it back to the way it was and put the new tires on to get ready for our heat race.

We went to the drivers meeting and Mike Snow said all drivers in our division were to report to the tech shed.  Well the shit hit the fan.  I could only see some very animated people from where I was.  Come to find out the 2 barrell carb. cars were told we could take 50 lbs off the cars.  I thought this was great news.  Finally trying to bring the field back to us.  The 42 cars owner was really pissed.  I mean I can understand BUT seeing how the crates have been cleaning house the track is just trying to equal things up.  I got really pissed when he basically blamed us which we have done nothing but show up and race.  We never complained when they gave and gave and gave some more to the crate engines.  4 Barrells, 200 lbs less and 2% left side more than built engines.  If it were up to me I would say 2 barrell 200 lbs 2% OR 4 Barrell 100 lbs 1%left side.  It was all cleared up with them at the end of the night and I understand you say things you don't mean in the heat of the moment.

We then lined up for the heat race and thought it was gonna be tough to keep our streak of heat race wins alive.  We were so close....Russ got in the gas a little quicker than Bryon as he was making a move for the lead and got Bryon really sideways it was all he could do to gather it back up.  We finished a close second but thats ok Russ was quick to come ove and fix the rear qtr panel....lol thanks Russ!

We lined up for the feature around the 7th spot.  Bryon quickly made his way up to the 3rd spot and battled with Brandon Ovitt and got chopped 3 or 4 times having to lock the car down so he didn't run him over.  We settled into the 3rd slot and the car was real free and Bryon battled Jeff Z for 3rd until he got by us.  Jeff then started putting the pressure on Ovitt and he just started overdriving the car per normal and ran into Aric Blanchette turning him and himself in front of the whole pack.  Bryon somehow got stopped without hitting anything....how I don't know.  Hey what do you know 4 seconds later here comes another rookie full tilt locking up his car and slamming into us and stuffing us into the mess.  What the hell is up with the spotters can't you say car inside or wreck on the backstretch stay low??  So now we have a mangled race car because of a couple of people not paying attention.  We waited a long time while the track was cleaned up.  Phil Meany and Barry Grays cars were badly damage as was Ovitts.  We came to the pits and adjusted the car only we didn't know the rr tire was going down.  We made our way back up to fourth but the car was pushing so bad we couldn't catch Rob Williams who took third.  We finished 4th with 15 lbs of air in the rr tire.  All in all a not so great night but we came out it ok.  Congratulations Jeff Z on another win and Russ for your 2nd place finish.

Bryon Finishes 3rd on Bond Auto Parts Night!!

Yesterday was a day that started off horribly and finished great.  We got to the track and got ready for the first practice with no issues.  We went on the track for our first practice and were warming the car up when the 74 and 02 stopped on the frontstretch so Bryon went to go around them and as he is alongside of the 02 the guy turns right and smashes into the LF.  Of course our driver being John Force Jr lit up the tires and spun the car into the infield because he was so pissed.  I gotta wonder what goes through the minds of these people?  Ok even if it you made a mistake wouldn't you even go over to say you were sorry?  I guess that is the difference between people with class and no-class.  So the first practice was out the window.  We have a wrecked wheel luckily that was all that was damaged but 100 bucks because of someones stupidity doesn't make me happy.  We got the car ready for the second practice and had to put our good tires on to really get a handle on how the car was going to go.  The car was still really free through the center out.  We made an adjustment and rescaled the car and decided to run it that way in the heat.  We started heat race in the fifth spot and rode there a few laps while things got sorted out.  Well things sorted out by people crashing.  The 99 got loose and spun in front of the field which gave the 71 no place to go but run into him.  That moved us up to the second spot along side the 5ma.  Bryon got a great restart and beat him down into the corner and checked out en-route to our 7th straight heat win.  Now if we can just seal the deal in the feature that would be awesome!  We started the feature in sixth.  Our line was not that good so we did get hung out for a few laps but after we cleared some of the slower cars we started going forward.  The car was real tight in the center skidding the nose.  Bryon adjusted the brakes and got it better but was still not able to gas it up when he needed to.  The forward bite we have been searching for is now there so we just need to fix the tightness and we should have a fast hotrod!  We made our way up to third but we couldn't reel in Barry Gray and Russ Hersey who finished ahead of us.  Congrats to Russ on his win and for coming back from the dark side leaving his crate engine over there!  I also want to Thank Moutainside Graphix for the Awesome Shirts that were delivered to us this week!!  Thanks Judy make sure if you need Tees or anything related to that you see her!  Click here to go to Mountainside Graphix!

Bryon Takes 3rd in the Spring Dash....

Tonight was the first race of the season.  The day started out with me basically stressed to the max. I knew we had a new set up under the car this year and was just worried it wouldn't work.  I am glad I sure was wrong.   The day started out by the officials making us take out our side window we had put in.  I was not happy about that at all.  I read and re-read the rule book to make sure I could do it but the officials said no-go.  We just took it off and headed out for our first practice, and we were really going good for what we had on the car for tires.  You could have played hockey with them they were so hard.  We were real happy with the car but wanted to try a couple of things which will help us to make changes in the future.  We started our heat in 3rd and we made it to the lead in about 2 laps.  We pretty much checked out and took down the heat race victory.  Now this was new to me....we redrew for the feature this year.  That being said we started in the fifth spot we quickly made it to third.  We ran there until the caution came out.  The car was pretty free so Bryon was pretty much at the mercy of the car for the remainder of the race.  We briefly had second until Barry Gray made a slick move to get by us and take the spot.  We would run him back down at the end of the race and almost get back to race for second.  We end up 3rd.  I am thrilled with the finish and the way the car went.  Congratulations to Jeff Zuidema on your 2 wins tonight.

April Showers bring May Flowers.....Maybe these track promoters will figure out this saying someday.  It seems every year we lose a few weeks of the racing season at the beginning of the season due to rain or weather of some sort.  Start the season the first weekend of May, and run the season until the end of September with a couple of mid week shows thrown in too.  The car is basically set to go.  Today we will finish leveling the chassis and straighten some wheels that got damaged in the last race last season, which sucks because they were brand new.  I put the Nascar sticker pack on the other night and that took awhile.  I wish that Nascar would have the companies make their stickers the same size so it is easier to line them all up and have them look good.  I got it after a bit of moving things around.  Yesterday I decided I really didn't like the way the site looked so I changed it.  Some things still look a bit funky to me but I am going to work on it some more.  I definetly like it better now.  This weeks agenda will consist of getting the tool box ready, getting spare parts ready, loading the truck and prepping the truck and trailer for the road.  The car has been getting rave reviews thus far and I want to thank everybody for the nice comments.  It always feels good when you do a good job and people take notice.  Now if it goes as good as it looks I think we will have a great season......

April 8, 2007

Monadnock had to cancel their practice thanks to Mother Nature deciding we have not had a long enough winter.  Next weekend will be busy if we do have good enough weather to race.  The car is just about done now.  The crew has put in a ton of hours this week to finish it.  I think Bryon and I have over 50 hours on the car this week.  Grant came down on Thursday to give us a hand and so did Phil.  The car is all lettered and looks great.  I have to put on the Nascar sticker pack as soon as I get it.  That will be good for another few hours of time.  We are anxiously waiting to get "Bad Larry" on the track to see how it will go.  Hope to see you all at the track this week.  We decided today to put the reassembly pictures up.  Enjoy!!  We did!

April 1, 2007

We started putting the car together yesterday.  So far so good.  We are still waiting for a few parts.  We had Airborn Coatings send us someone else's headers so we are waiting for ours still.  They should be here midweek.  I won't be putting up pictures until after practice day.  To see the new look you'll have to wait or come to the track on Saturday!  Be sure to stop over and say Hi to us!

See ya at the track!!

March 28th

Osgoods Welding came through for us today and we were able to pick up the chassis.  It came out awesome to say the least.   We finished building the rear end tonight and I painted the parts that needed it.  Tomorrow will be a night off due to work commitments and that gives us 8 days to get the car ready for opening day.  It should go off without a hitch.  All of the prefab work will pay off now.  The only thing that has to be fitted are the rear brake lines which will be a piece of cake.  I will keep you updated during the week.  So keep checking in.

Today I feel a lot less stress after we dropped off the Chassis at Osgoods Welding.  It will get a nice stress relieving sand blast job this week along with a fresh coat of paint.  We got to witness the mad skills of Pop wheeling the loader around.  I guess working in the salvage yard for all those years paid off....lol.  My favorite thing to do when I was little was to ride with him in the loader and move cars with it.  While that is down there we will concentrate on building another new rear end.  Louie stopped by today and told us the rest of the body panels were finished.  We will pick those up in the next day or so.  Everything seems to be falling in line nicely.  This weekend we rebuilt all of the brake calipers and rebuilt the rack and pinion.  Good thing we took a good look at that.  The bushing had worked itself out of the housing that could have led to a bad crash.  Thankfully we found it.  We rebuilt all of the A- frames and put all new ball joints in them as well.  They had taken a beating throughout the season so we replaced them.  Hopefully the chassis will be done by midweek and that will give us about 9 days to reassemble everything.

March 23, 2007

I am helping out our friends over at Bodreau Motorsports until they get their website back up and running.  Check in with them to see what is going on in Modified land.  Well we finally finished all of our fabrication work.  We still have a few things left to clean and reassemble then we wait to get the chassis back from Osgoods Welding who will be taking care of it for us.  At this point we have 16 days left to complete the car for practice day.  Definetly doable I think.  The transmission is all set we just have to go down to see Brad at Trans Tech to get it.  The headers should be back anytime with a nice new ceramic coating on them.  We got the red panels back this week and Lou at Lou's Auto Body will be finishing the black panels this week.  The red looks awesome I can't wait until the car is complete it is going to really have some pop once Phil's Signs N Stripes lays down the new vinyl.  Another great sponsor and reason we won the best appearing car in the Outlaw Pros in 2006.  Keep checking back I will try to keep you all informed on how we are coming along.

The Season is coming in a hurry.  Go figure it snowed last night, just what we needed one more hurdle to overcome.  I am heading to the garage now I just wanted to put up some pictures of the progress.  It is still going to be very close.  The fab work has to be done by the end of tomorrow so we can get the Chassis down to Osgoods Welding so they can sandblast and paint it.  Then we can start reassembly.  Next week will consist of cleaning and painting parts.  Stay tuned for more news and me stressing out...

March 6, 2007

Well it's been a long time since I have had time to actually sit down and update everyone on the progress of the racecar.  I am pretty worried at this point that we will be lucky to make practice day.  We have a lot to do still.  Fabrication of the body is just about complete.  The hood is being finished up now.  Lou's Auto Body will give us a fresh paint job and a new look for 2007.  We do love green but it is time for a change and as you can see the car will be red and black.  The car is partially stripped and the headers are being sent out to be recoated this week.  The transmission will be dropped off at Trans Tech this week to keep it bullet proof for another season!  Thanks Brad!  Once the car is stripped we will revamp the pedal box and fix the front clip where the strut bar was torn off last season.  The chassis will then go to Osgood's Welding for sandblasting and painting.  The first time since we built the car I can't wait it is going to look great.  Having great sponsors lets us continue to do what we love every week.  I will try to get some more pictures up soon.  Check back soon I'll try to do this more consistently.

Cya on the Flipside!

January 28, 2007

Welcome to our new website!  Bryon and I finally got started on the car.  We have been plugging along the last few weeks.  This week we put the new outlaw nose on, it looks pretty sweet.  It surely is nothing short of a pain in the ass though.  We got all of the bracing for the fenders on today along with the front cowl assembly.  It came from an abc body so I guess we have an abc body now....lol.  I also pulled all of the old vinyl off on the pieces we will be reusing.  The goal for the upcoming week is to finish the front bumper and all that goes with it, shroud, brake ducts etc.  you don't have a bumper until you have a bumper by Baker.  Bodies just take us so long because they have to look just right and that is not always easy for us to accept imperfections.  Next up after the front is done we will make aluminum front fenders and put on the new doors.  We also need to make patch panels for the rear quarters now that they are ruined because someone whined at the dog and the officials made us take of the rear nerf bars.  This year they will stay on because there is no rule in the rule book stating we can not have them.  Either way if they are there or not you are gonna hit something solid because we beefed it up even more than before.  So to the team whining....yeah we know who you are....stop driving in there.  Then we have to re-route the exhaust out the door....YAY!  We then will strip the car and sandblast and paint the Chassis.  A new look for 2007....stay tuned maybe I'll give a sneak peek.
